beautiful views heading north up the Coast Brava

This boat went past while I was enjoying the sea views of the Costa Brava from my rocky perch along one of the paths at the Marimurtra botanical gardens - boldly plastered with all the contact details needed to know who they were and how to get hold of them!

Looked rather nice!

Train to Barcelona from Blanes

The trains to Barcelona leave quite frequently through the day and only take an hour and 15 minutes to Place Catalunya Station or a few minutes on to Estacio Sants (where there are baggage storage facilities, elsewhere none).

On the way, worth taking the train for these views, are lovely views of the coastline/white beaches and blue seas. About an hour of the hour and 15 minutes is close to the sandy beaches coastline with a number of station stops, with nice looking beaches, along the way.

Blanes train estacio with buses ready for pickup

Maybe Ive become spoilt and extravagant but I so often travel with the joy of a rental car to go here and there and be free to make diversions, stop or whatever - all to maximise the time available to see sights and take photographs. Even taking photos from a moving self drive car are 100% better than out the window of public transport!

I managed to get about by bus and train this 3 day trip but I do know that next time I definitely want a car!....there are too many places I want to get to and transport connections and timetables are just too time consuming!

But otherwise for train and bus info - trains are almost half the price of buses! So thats something to bear in mind when you have a choice! They dont get stuck in traffic either - though they often leave a little late and some routes require train changes. But theyre cheap. And return fares are quite a bit cheaper than 2 singles. Eg a return from Blanes to Girona by train is 4.70 euro - a one way by train is 3.10 and a one way by bus is 5.50 euro! The bus company that runs the route though also makes a difference.

A oneway from Blanes to Barcelona by train is only 4.10 euro but a return is 6 euro something.

Buses from Blanes - bus number 4 from the centre next to the beach which is Place Catalunya is only 1.10 euro and run to meet, and pickup from, the trains at Blanes Estacio de Tren. There are also a few buses that head north up the coast to Lloret etc. and there are buses that go direct to Girona airport but not too frequently and the last bus is about 6.30 pm.

Place Catalunya

These open sided buses run between Place Catalunya in the centre of Blanes, along the promenade and up to the Marimutra gardens up on the hill above every 20 minutes or so. There is a stop at the port just before the bus heads up the hill. Probably saving you about 20 minutes or so walk.

The fare is 2 euro return or 1.20 euro one way.

Nice way to see the sights enroute - not a great deal but you see the shops, restaurants and the beach and port - and people watch along the way!

bus station-Blanes

We took bus to Girona (then we went to Figueres) and it costs 5€ for one if you take one way ticket.8,80€ if you want to come back.

But please take the timetable when you arrive to Blanes and then make your plans after looking at the hours.

Also we used this bus company from our hotel to train station.I costs 1€ and takes lee than 5 minutes. There is a bus evry half an hour to the train station.

Blanes station.

There is a railway station at Blanes but it is a good way from the seafront and the hotels.

Trains run all the way down the coast to Barcelona in one direction, and in the other the tracks head off in land to where I know not as I was staying down in Malgrat de Mar.

Bus and train systems in Blanes work together. If you take a bus from the terminal to the train station, be sure you'll be in the train to Barcelona in 5 minutes after your arrival, and if you come from Barcelona by train, the bus will wait for you. Also you can get to Barcelona, Girona and Lloret by bus from the Bus terminal.
