Goethe in the gardens, Blanes

angiebabe Says:  This pretty pond display with quotes from Goethe is an interesting feature in the garden. There was a postcard for sale in the shop with this on it which I chose for nieces as with the European or Continental addition to it makes it rather an interesting opportunity for some...

Cantina Mariachi: Best mexican food in Blanes!, Blanes

KleoScanti Says:  Cantina Mariachi is a very good Mexican restaurant. Tasty food, good service, nice hall, outdoor terrace - everything you need. One of the good points - they serve a very tasty sangria, another one - they have big dishes, made especially to share between family or...

(it will come to me!): Good international bar

**April 2011 - I have been told this bar is no more - shame! but as Matthew hs two young boys now, the hours were jsut too unsociable**

My dear frrend Matthew and his Andalucian wife Marta, own a very good international bar in a padestrianised street, at the opposite end of town from the old town, near the campsites and apartments.

It's a great little bar with an outside patio for summer and Matt (otherwise known as 'The Corker') does a fantastic range of reasonably priced and delicious tapas.

His clientel are an international mix of Spanish, French, Brits and whoever...which makes for a very amusing atmosphere.

I just wish I could remember the name ! (I will find out soon).

Transportation

Up the coast by boat

Up the coast by boat, Blanes

angiebabe Says:  This boat went past while I was enjoying the sea views of the Costa Brava from my rocky perch along one of the paths at the Marimurtra botanical gardens - boldly plastered with all the contact details needed to know who they were and how to get hold of them!Looked rather...

Train to Barcelona from Blanes, Blanes

Public transport

Public transport, Blanes

Bus Botanic to the Marimurtra Botanical Gardens, Blanes

angiebabe Says:  These open sided buses run between Place Catalunya in the centre of Blanes, along the promenade and up to the Marimutra gardens up on the hill above every 20 minutes or so. There is a stop at the port just before the bus heads up the hill. Probably saving you about 20...

Mataro Town & Shopping Center: Shopping on a Rainy Day, Blanes

amapola66 Says:  Mataro is a port town around 30 kilometers before Barcelona from Blanes. Locals suggested we went there to shop as the rain was relentless. On arrival, the town had an instantly likeable, non touristy vibe. We strolled around a while and had a spot of lunch in a local Catalan...

Stayed with friends a few minutes out of Blanes - at their villa complex out in the lovely countryside. Lovely countryside with rolling hills and vineyards - fields with poppies and colourful wildflowers!

Get to see or meet the neighbours - closeby complete with character - with their chicken runs, cats, vegetables plots, junk piles and 15 dogs if they want! Those who dont want their land encroached will put up perimeter fences to keep you out.

Beware Dodgy Late Night Chinese Take-Away, Blanes

amapola66 Says:  Beware the late night Chinese Takeaway Restaurant that is the only open place in the wee hours in the winter (near the old part of town I think).Late one Sunday night, a friend decided (against his better nature) that he would risk a take-out from the only place open at 3...

What to Pack

Take Some Slippers!

Slippers for Cool Spanish Homes

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Yeah, not very rock and roll, I know ! - but even in the summer, Spanish homes are designed to keep the heat out. The floors are usually tiled and accomodation can be quite cool inside.

Slippers are essential to ones well being in the cooler months there.

My advise is to take some.
You will be pleased you did.
