Favorite thing: Would I ever go to Figueres without Dali?

No! For sure!

It seemed a nice place but... with what to attract a tourist without Dali?
I tried to read, to search something else, in a not so small city - more than 40000 inhabitants but... everything leads to Gala foundation, which means Dali.
Anyway, this single reason is more than enough to a visit: since you're in Costa Brava or nearby, there's no excuse!

Favorite thing: There is nothing to do but go for a walk and look at the Pyrennes Mountains of France.
I also LOVED listening to the "natives" complain and debate politics. The do NOT consider themselves Spaniards at all. They detest Franco and how they were FORCED to join Spain ...

Fondest memory: The bustling WINDS at night and the CALM that got me sleeping HOURS nightly.

Dali Museum

Favorite thing: I'm not sure why they chose to put the eggs on top of the museum, but this is the exterior. The entrance is behind and to the right. Very few people seem to be out and about on the streets, but the museum is packed. Even though this museum is great, they still have you exit through the gift shop.

Fondest memory: Aroudnd the museum you can find an assortment of restaurants selling microwaved paella and various souveniers. It might be nice to stroll through a few for a few minutes.

Gala Nude Watching the Sea which, at a Distance...

Favorite thing: The Dali Museum does not allow you to bring in backbacks, or large bags. This meant I could not bring my camera bag! I had to pick 2 lenses (I did not have big pockets) carry my camera around and ask my friend to hold the other lens everytime I took a picture. No flash photography allowed.

next time better pockets!

Favorite thing: This's one of the first things a visitor sees inside....
I was just fascinated by that picture, it represents an optical illusion, which is two pictures in one - a portrait of Dali himself and Gala...
There is a kind of telescope aimed at the picture on the second floor, so you can see how this illusion works but I figured it out myself by just looking into my cam viewfinder, voila! The lenses in a camera do the same trick as a telescope....

Favorite thing: Ahhhh, this was the most pleasant part of visiting Figueras.... was just several kilometers away from the city... Spain is just full of such wine houses, where one can taste different sorts of wine and then buy those you liked, however, as a rule, after excessive tasting tourists can hardly recollect their own names, not to tell about buying something....

Favorite thing: This is a pic near the museum exit, that's where you find yourself after wandering thru a mase of rooms and corridors....
But to tell you the truth - after visitng this museum my passion for Dali vanished as if never existed, probably it was too much of maddness and crazyness for me... the museum is interesting but very weird at the same time, cracks you brains at some point :)))

a shop-front in figueres

Favorite thing: Figueras (figueres) is the capital of the Alt Empordà, the area of atalunya which borders with France. Other than the Casa-Museu Salvador Dali, there are also several interesting 18th century houses and a castle (Castell de Sant Ferran)

Fondest memory: Salvador Dali's museum - which was the reason I decided to visit this little town

Art

Favorite thing: I have been there for a short time, but maybe someday i will go back.... take at least 1 day to see it all!
We went on a daytrip to Girona, Banoyes and the Dali museum. Its was organized by the travelagency and a femaleguide explained all in 4 languages. She was really good! We had an international group with Fins, Ukrainians, Germans, English, Italian, Spanish and Dutch people.
All interested in the same thing that makes the contact very easy. The best of the trip was saved for last ,,the Dali mueseum. After a long trip we wanted to strech the legs first and have some drink at a restaurant on the square near the museum. Then we went inside my friend and me and i know i must have stood with my mouth open sometimes. I still feel the excitement looking at all the things Dali created, what a genius...
The guide told us a lot about Dali's personnal life as well. I will write this all down later at my travelogues.

Fondest memory: Dali museu what more can i say....

Its not allowed to take a huge bag or rucksaks inside the museum, neither can u u use a flashlight inside! If u do the camera will be confiscated..
U can smoke, eat or drink in a special area.
Its not allowed to touch anything, i think thats normal..do wear some walkingshoes because the building has 3 floors and u will be walking from room to room.
Opening hrs.
09.00-20.00 hrs (1st.july-30th.september)
10.30-18.00 hrs.(1st.oct-30th.june)

Favorite thing: On the way from the railway station to the city centre where you find the museum, you meet a small church and not much more, as far as I could see, Figuera's real attraction is just the museum.

a strange town... salvador dali's birthplace - and final resting place. Figueres is a sleepy town with a buzzing museum, which is a peculiar combination. Definitely worth a visit or day-trip.
