Shops around the museum: Want a souvenier?
There are a ton of little souvenier shops around the museum. Most of them carry the same items, t-shirts, mugs, ties , postcards and other various knick knacks and bric a brac. The only store that anything that was a little different was the official museum store. The items were a little pricey though. I wanted a placemat for Norman and it cost 14 euro! I ended up with only a postcard.
what to buy in Figueres: what to buy in Figueres
We didn’t go to Figueres for shopping but we bought some candys and local cheese from the stalls on place de l’Estacio opposite the train station.
Walking towards Dali museum we passed by 2 covered markets where they sell lots of fruits and vegetables (also meat and fish but that wasn’t convenient for us during a daytrip). Between the markets is placa del Gra with an interesting sculpture (pic 3), the name of the square (grain square) refers to the founding of the square in 1886 when it became the venue for the cereals market. The fruit/vegetable market takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The municipal market takes place every Thursday with local sellers all over the Old Town in many squares.
If you are after tourist souvenirs you will find many small stores near Dali museum but the museum itself has a great collection (but also expensive)
Municipal Market: Every Thursday
Every Thursday Figueres squares turn into one large market where food, local crafts and numerous more or less useful items are sold.
What to buy: I'm semivegetarian so I got myself some goat cheese produced in a peasants' cooperative near Figueres. I also saw a wide variety of spices, vegetables and fruit.
For non-vegetarian readers: great selection of dry sausage, as well as dried ham can be bought in this market.
