If you arrive in Figueres by car and without a really good map, like we did, you might find it a bit tricky to find the museum. What you want to do is to follow any signs that direct you to the city center. Ther main thoroughfare will have signs to "the museums" which you can follow but the signs seldom have text. Look for a big planetarium-style dome like the one next to the tower in this picture. As you follow the signs, there will be a point (a T- intersection) where you will wonder if they are directing you correctly. Ignore your misgivings and follow them anyway, you will go up a hill and find the museum. By sight, you are looking for the complex shown in the picture.

RENFE trains from and to Figueres are a good and reliable means of transportation. Trains are inexpensive, clean and air conditioned. The only problem is that they are always late but you can get used to that

I paid a visit to Figueres, while in Girona.
Getting there from Girona is very easy. It only takes 25 minutes by train. The train station is in the middle of the town and a 15 minutes walk from the main attraction, the Dali museum.
Just be careful when buying your train ticket, it needs some thinking through (see warning and danger tip)

We took the train from Barcelona Sants to Figueres. The fare was 15 Euro roundtrip. It took about 1 1/2- 2 hours. After disembarking from the train in Figueres we grabbed a taxi to take us to the Dali museum. It wasn't that expensive. The other option is to walk. It should take about 20 minutes, and there should be signs to help you along the way. After spending the day at the museum and walking around a bit, we simply reversed the process. You can get a schedule for the train at Barcelona Sants.

Figueras is about one hour and half far from Barcelona by train.
You can take the train in the main railway station in Barcelona(Barcelona Sants) or in some minor ones, the paseo de gracia for example is close to the placa Catalunya, casa Batlo' and Pedrera. There are several connections, one at 9.25 another at 10.25 and so on.

to get to figueras from barcelona, as a day trip, it's really easy. There are direct trains there, and the entire trip lasts about 90 minutes.
The most convenient trains leave the small Paseig de Gracia train station at 8.25 am, 9.25 am or 10.25 am. They all stop at the main station, Barcelona Sants, about 5 minutes later.
The return trip costs about 15 euros.

The museum is about 20 minuts walk from the station, so if it's not raining , a walk is the best way to reach the centre of the town.

a strange town... salvador dali's birthplace - and final resting place. Figueres is a sleepy town with a buzzing museum, which is a peculiar combination. Definitely worth a visit or day-trip.
