The choice of restaurants in L'Escala are suited to all tastes covering traditional and European recipes in the menu's. Authentic Catalan, Tapas Bars, Fish Restaurants, Pizza's and Pasta's, Chinese and Mexican dishes. But, of course, there's nothing more synonymous with Spanish cuisine than tapas, the tradition of eating small dishes as an appetizer, snack or in combination to form a main meal of the day. The latter has become a growing trend worldwide in recent decades, and that should come as no surprise to food-lovers: after all what could be better than mixing and matching all the glorious taste sensations of Spain for supper?
After our visit to Empúries with its beautiful archaeological site we ended up in the village of L’Escala. It was definitely time for a refreshment and maybe even some tapas. It was not like we were the only one who had this particular idea, it was rather crowded, especially at the terraces. Finally we found a table with the typical tapas dishes at the Medusa restaurant. We just sat down, enjoyed the weather and looked up to the beautiful facades of the surrounding buildings and on the other side the great beaches. So we did enjoy the drinks, food and the vibrancy of this beautiful spot.

Wonderful restaurant in the old town. Beautiful ceiling with catalan arches. The food was excellent, a mixed of local, french and international cuisine. So tasty and extremely well presented. The service was so friendly that they made us feel like at home.
Definitely, a place to return and to recommend to everybody.
Favorite Dish: Definitely, the fresh red Tuna fish mi-cuit or the tournedos of duck roasted with honey. Don't miss the desserts!!!!!!

Lovely food including the best pork steaks around. The fillet steaks with a choice of sauces are superb and great value. Very friendly staff and the most fantastic view of the sea as you eat. Satisfaction guaranteed. Meals for six came to just 80 Euros including drinks.
Favorite Dish: The pork steaks and escalopes are so yummy and come with a choice of potatoe dishes. All round a fantastic place to eat and drink.

Can Toni sits on the road just behind the beach front at Riells. Don't mind the road-side location and the plastic furniture, you're going here for the best value dinner in town. Choose set menu #1 at less than €10 for starter, main course, dessert, bread and a 1/4 bottle of house wine, for a real mid-week treat. You'll have to get there early, or be prepared to wait, as the locals and regular L'Escala visitors know what a bargain it is.
Positivies: Cheap. Great simple spanish food. Friendly, helpful staff. Busy!
Negatives: Road-side location. Plastic furniture. No baby seats.
There are three real gem restaurants in Riells at the moment. Can Toni is the best for value and simple Spanish food.
On a budget? Then eat here every night of your stay!
Favorite Dish: From set menu #1 choose:
The legendary baked eggs with chorizo and ham to start. Typical spanish starter. Simple and delicious. Use a chunk of bread to mop up the sauce.
Pork fillet for main course. Two medallions battered flat and marinaded, before being flash-fried. Peppery. Served with good fries. Pork fillet is great thoroughout the town: L'oila in the old town serves the best pork fillet in the world!
Crema Catalan for dessert. Good custard, plenty of sugar melted to a toffee crisp on the top. Does it get any better than this?

Well it might seem a little odd to leave a comment about a Chinese Restaurant when you are visiting Spain, especially when there is all that lovely seafood to be had, but this place was exceptional and deserves a comment! EXCEPTIONAL! We thought it was one of the best Chinese meals we have had EVER! The food was cooked to absolute perfection and the menu fantastic. The food was beautifully presented to remain warm and was not "sloppy" like some Chinese meals can be. The price was amazing. There were 4 of us and we all had starters, had a mixture of 8 or 9 dishes for the main course, the children had desserts, we had a bottle of wine and coffees and the cost was 60 euros in total (£40). The service was as good as the food, the staff were friendly and efficient and gave the children lollipops and us complimentary drinks (and a little gift of a fan) and when we gave them a good tip, they argued that it was too much. When we insisted they sent us home with a tin of lychees! Def. have a meal there if you like Chinese and want a change from paella and tapas. Absolutely great!

I took advice off the previous comments about this restaurant and was very disappointed (albeit it was in the evening). The tv was on (no, not the World Cup, but the Spanish version of "Deal or no deal"!), the toilets were complained about by my children (not clean and no loo roll), the waitress poured wine over the table and dropped the cutlery on the floor, the food was barely passable as edible and the cost was one of the more expensive meals of our holiday. We didn't hang around - we went elsewhere for the children to have dessert! To be fair, we didn't have pizza (my husband and I had steak and the children had pasta), but it was overpriced for what we had and we would not recommend it. We had better meals of fish, steak, pasta etc. at other venues nearby. Would suggest if you try this place that you stick to a cheap pizza and go at lunchtime - def. not the place for an evening meal.

Although this restaurant is a pizzeria it also cooks many other nice dishes too (fish, steaks, pasta and more). It is in close proximity to the beach so this area is always really lively in the evenings. The restaurant owner, David, is a really nice and friendly guy, as my fiancee's parents know him he came and sat with us to chat while we ate our food. He lives in the flat above the restaurant with his wife and new born child. The most memorable experience of going there was that David offered to cook us what ever we wanted on our next visit to the restaurant and sure enough he did, apparently he drove to a nearby town to get the best fish and steaks he could find.
Favorite Dish: All of it, I had the pizza which was recommended as their best which comes with all sorts of meat toppings, which was gorgeous although very difficult to finish as it was so big!! The steak I had was also massive but cooked to perfection, with a side of chips and salad. (I think I put on a bit of weight due to all the lovely food, heh heh).

El Roser 2 has a good location in front of the sea. You can enjoy beautiful view of the gulf of Roses while you savor a flavorful fish.
