Lloret de Mar Things to Do

  • Beach

Visit the beach, of course... Lots of sunshine, soft drinks, food and sight seeing. Like the notice in the picture says: Now is the time! Lloret de Mar, the main beach looking south ; in the background the tall hotel we used to call "Kim's Coiffeur" - or "Kim's" for short - after the huge billboard that they had on the roof ... .Or had they?...

Lloret de Mar Restaurants

  • Don't miss the paellas and jamon !

We go often on holidays to Pineda de Mar to the Hotel Merce. Every year before we come back to Scotland I like to invite my wife to this nice Restaurant of the same hotel owners. I reccommend you to mix some starters as tapas as calamari romana, spanish jam and a salad and then choose a paella or any fish or meat dishes. All of it is delicious. My...

  • The Plastic Palace & The Real Thing

On our first visit to Blanes we stopped at what I call "The Plastic Palaces" along the beach. These are usually small nearly outdoor bars selling snacks, cold drinks and teas and coffee. On our first visit we enjoyed a cool vitamin enriched fruit juice as it was early in the day and we were not hungry. We found ourselves back in Blanes on our last...

  • Three courses for 9.50 euros!

Luna Gaucha is a Uruguyan Restaurant in Calella - a bright airy place to enjoy a relaxing meal. We ordered a bottle of Vinos Rosados while we looked at the menus. They did have speciality dishes from Uruguay but their menu of the day was too tempting to miss at 9.50 euros for three courses - Who could refuse? Service was relaxed and friendly with...

Lloret de Mar Nightlife

  • Moonlight over Lloret

I'm not much of a nightlife person and was only once out in the dark when we returned from a day away. I could have been forgiven for thinking I was back in Scotland when I spotted the names on the bars :) but we really don't have this kind of tat back home!! We had a pleasant stroll back to our hotel through the moonlit streets finishing of our...

  • A Nice Club

With a name like this.. I couldn't miss it! I went here the first very night I was in Lloret and we had fun! The entrance fee is 12 euro and you get two drinks for free. We spent almost all the first night here and inside we met German and French girls and some boys from Syria too.. Dress Cool!

Lloret de Mar Transportation

  • Airport Transfers from Barcelona Airport

We have been coming to the Costa Brava for many years and used many different transfer companies however, I found a new one this year called Barcelonatransfers.com. Their website is really easy to use when booking and gives all the information on what to do/where to go on your arrival in Spain. Airport reps immediately recognisable and very helpful...

I m a French guy going to Lloret every summer by palne the cheapest and easiest way to get to my hotel been booking through barcelonatransfers.com, they are a local company there, offering shuttle and private transfers 24 hours a day. They have their own reps in both airports to help us if we need and indicate our bus on departure they sent to me a...

  • Direct Bus to Barcelona

Take the orange SARFA bus from the main bus station in Lloret to go direct to Barcelona. It's a one hour trip. Buy your tickets to Barcelona and for your return. It costs about E9.60 each way. Best get there early as it books up fast. There are two stations in Barcelona, central and North. Both are very good for the tourist. We ended up going to...

Lloret de Mar Shopping

  • Fresh Fruit & Vegetables Spices & Flower

The Farmers' Market in Blanes is a real local market popular for its fresh fruit and vegetables supplied by the farmers from Blanes and the surrounding area. The market is open mornings only Monday through to Saturday. We did see lots of fields of vegetables growing on the farms during our train trip to Calella. Maybe our hotel should shop here...

  • Touristy shops where you can buy...

The area surrounding the beach is infested with small shops selling (in my opinion) cheesy touristy items.. if that is what you are into.. a great place for you to visit!! You can buy anything from food and alcohol to shirts, postcards, shoes, purses.. anything and everything you want.. you can probably find it!! The prices are fairly cheap.....

  • Streets of shops

Along the seacoast from the central street to the eastern direction is the street of shops. • Discipline and Children

We past the local primary school here in Lloret a fair few times usually on our way to the bus station. We both work in our local primary school and were naturally drawn to the sound of children at play. The school like ours has two seperate playgrounds, one for older children and one for younger ones. Unlike ours, we noticed the children were...

  • Two different languages

Here in Lloret De Mar as in the rest of Catalunya region people speaks two languages: Catalan and Spanish Castilian. I've always studied Castilian but I have to say that Catalan was more similar to Italian language and maybe to Sicilian dialect.... strange but true!

Lloret de Mar Warnings and Dangers

  • Bag Snatching

I didn't see this but heard about it whilst talking to a lady at the airport. Apparently a lady was sitting at a bar with her bag on the table, a man ran past, grabbed it and ran off. Of course trying to give chase in flip flops was never going to work. After nearly getting my bag taken whilst in Madrid I now sit with my bag over my shoulder even...

  • You may not like the views

I came to Lloret under no illusions of seeing great views from the hotel or indeed any other views from the resort. Here they tore nearly everything down to create a hotel land. I do like reflective photography and could not resist snapping the warning triangle on the apartments facing our balcony. No real danger and no real warnings just a...

  • Sunbathing.

When coming out to ANY destination in Spain, beware that the sun can burn you here without you knowing it until it is too late and you end up looking like Lobster Thermidore. The recommended amount of sunbathing that you should do on the first day, (especially if you are fair skinned), is TEN MINUTES. I know that does not sound a lot but keeping out...

Lloret de Mar Tourist Traps

  • Main road from the beach to the bus...

I would say the whole of the main drag and a couple of side streets leading from the beach towards the bus station is a tourist trap. Not that anyone is really pushy but it reminds me of Blackpool with store keepers encouraging you to come in. Keep smiling, shake your head, ' no gracias'. smile & keep on walking!

  • Hiking route - what you see on is not...

There quite a few alternatives for hiking in the surrounding areas of Lloret. Local tourist bureau issues a nicely compiled map of hiking routes. BUT - it is not as friendly, as it may seem from the map. There are very few signs directing you along the way. If you think it is self-explanatory, you may just not realize the fun of climbing up and...

Lloret de Mar What to Pack

  • Don't go bare foot around the beach

The Costa Brava is known as the fierce coast and the rough sand - resembling very small hard stones can be a killer on your feet. Sandals and flip flops are OK but if the sea is kicking up a storm trainers or walking shoes are much more comfortable. The sand won't get so easily between your toes and you won't get your feet wet walking along the...

  • Spanish use two pin plugs!

A fold up bag is useful to bring presents back. If going out of season consider taking a small umbrella. They are expensive to buy in Spain. Also afleece or similar warm jacket. Plaza Constitucion in Calella is where you will find the government buildings along with some smart restaurants and some small tourist shops. Lloret de Mar Favorites

  • Blue Skies and Palm Trees

I love the beaches in Lloret, in the winter months (March in particular) it is not yet crowded and most days it is warm enough to walk along the shore and sit in the sun.
