Malgrat de Mar is a great resort. We stayed at the Amaraigua Hotel last may and are going back again this May. I have 2 children aged 10 and 6 and they cant wait to go back to Barcelona. We went last year and had a great time and the kids didnt moan once about getting to and from. The train journey takes about an hour and it was about ten euros for all four of us to travel. Barcelona is a beautiful City. Dont go to Barcelona Train station, get off at Plaça de Catalunya that is the centre of Barcelona and you can get on the Tour Bus (Although I thought this was quite expensive.) But the metro and buses all stop here or you can take a walk up La Rambla to the Sea front. A tip don't exchange your money here the exchange rates were ridiculous. Hope you have a good time. I am really excited and cant wait to go back. We didnt stay at the Monteplaya last year but passed several times and it looks OK.

There are regular trains from Barcelona to Blanes via Malgrat de mar.to access the timetables
goto:-www.renfe.es/cercanias/barcelona/index.html
then"ver plano" to access the rail map of this urban line set up.Pick Barcelona from the drop down menu and also Malgrat or Blanes ,thentipo del day for the day and fecha for your date and horario for the timetable etc.
BUSES:-www.transpujol.com will give you access to the timetables for Blanes to Lloret de mar and Tossa de mar via the URBAN&SUBURBAN link
This should give you transport along the coast and into pineda de mar santa Soussana Callela etc without hiring a car.

Its cheap 1 euro 1 way, 2 euro around Malgrat.
Its comfortable and u can see the sea on one side and on the other side the boulevard with all the hotels and bars and shops. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

From here you can travel to Blanes (albeit a good walk to the town). From there the tracks head inland.
In the other direction you can travel to Calella and stations to Barcelona.
'Ida y Vuelta' (pronounced - eeda ee vwelta) are the words for out and return but I found that the booking clerks do speak some English. Leave a Comment Theme: Train
