Explore Catalunya

by magictravelers

Most people are not familiar with theGeographic patterns of Spain (I didn´t myself until I moved here). And most people come to visit theknown places such as Madrid, Barcelona, etcBarcelona is the Capital of the Autonomic Community of Catalunya, and Catalunya ha a lot more to offer than just Barcelona. I love Barcelona the City, but i enjoy even more going around Catalunya on weekends to discover those small towns that are still "vigin", hardly touched by tourists. One of my favorites things to do ia to visit the medieval fairs celebrayed around this AC, especially during the Summer. I love animals and one of those activities that not too many people know about is shepherd dog competition, done with actual sheeep in the mountains. To do such activities, you must rent a car in Barcelona, Tarragona or Girona. You can get a list of activities at the web: www.festes.org (Spanish, Catalan or...

In the most warm days, you can also take a bath. In Llo there are also warm watter where you can take a healthy bath.Is not easy find information about this lovely place, but you'll find not too much, but people.

Les fonts del Segre

by Peret

In the french Catalonia, close to the border within Spain and France, there are "les fonts del Segre", this is, the fountains of the Segre. There the Segre is borned. In August you can't approach with the car too much, and you must to walk four hours from "Llo". In the other months, you can go with the car til a point from you will spend at least one hour and half. In the picture, we are out of the easy way, to enjoy more the walk, closer to the river.

La Garroxta

by tessy

The region round Olot is full of vulcanos. There are about 40 inactive volcanos. It's also a great region for hiking, there are lots of special hiking trails. We made a stop at a parking near the volcan San Magarida. We climbed on the bottom of the vulcano and then went inside it, where is the little church!Don't forget the water when it's hot! Near there parking, there is a well, so you can fill your bottle again!

Tossa

by tessy

Tossa was the place I loved a lot. It is not full of high hotels, it kept so more of its beauty than several other places along the coast. Sitting in a restaurant in the evening, looking on the sea, seeing the lights of the castle, having a great meal, what else do i need?

Pals

by tessy

Pals is a pitturesque place. It is situated on the top of a hill, there is the city wall around the old part (vila vella). Lots of shops with ceramics, which are in my opinion a bit nicer than the mass ware in other places.

Delta de l'Ebre

by Peret

The Delta de l'Ebre is where the Ebre river finish in sea. There, the ground is completely flat, and the water goes around and become the lord of the land. This is a not to much known zone, and maybe is better that keep like this. But i think that the VT's have right to know the land where the clouds swim in the water.

Delta of the Ebro

by DanielF

The river is the most powerful river in Spain. Iberia is in fact named after it. When it meets the sea, in southern Tarragona, it forms a perfect arrow-shaped delta. Most of it is consacrated to agriculture (mainly rice), but large parts of it sustain a great amount of birds, which make of this place a paradise for birdwatchers. The delta is threatened by ambitious and insane hydraulic projects. Let´s hope taht for once respect for life and the nature will prevail over speculation and easy money.

Parc Natural de Sant Llorenc del Munt i l´Obac

by crazyguitar

This nice park is located near Terrassa, Sabadell and Matadepera, in Valles Occidental Comarca. The highest point is La Mola (1.105 meters), there is a romanesque monastery and some facilities such a restaurant. The only way to reach the top is hiking, from 1 hour to 2 and a half depending on the path.In a clear day the view is amazing, you can see Barcelona, the sea and even Mallorca, Montserrat, the Pyreness...More pictures and a map in my travelogues.
