Ryanair users may be aware that the airport you fly into is much nearer to Girona than Barcelona. We did think about spending a day in this city before heading to Tossa but the connections to Girona were surprisingly poor (2/3 a day). So we decided to catch a more frequent bus to Lloret de Mar then catch a connecting bus. Our flight was delayed so we were very lucky to catch the Lloret bus ( runs approx every 3 hours!) but remember to buy your ticket inside the airport building as the driver doesn't sell any! My boyfriend had to run back to buy them. On arriving in Tossa the Tourist Info Office is handily next to the station so we headed in there for a map.
From Tossa there is a frequent, fairly cheap, Barcelona bus service.

Tourist cruises run to and from Tossa de Mar. They're very popular and quite inexpensive. During a cruise you can see the picturesque coastline as well as coloured faces of other passengers who become sea-sick. Sometimes you can't chose where to look.
Tickets can be bought here - in a booth on the beach.

Someone had written a report on one of these review sites about giro transfer a company that specialises in transfers from girona airport. I booked the taxi through the internet and no payment had to be made until they picked us up. I cant remember how much they charged but will find out, they were the cheapest out of all other quotes i had. They picked us up in an 8 seater and even waited till we finished our breakfast for the return journey.

One can get to Tossa by bus - PUJOL buses run here quite often. Upon arrival to Tossa you'll be able to use the toilet in the bus station - that's the most valuable part of this tip ;-)
