Public Transportation within Catalonia

TRAINS/BUSSES/OTHERSThrough the website below you can check possible combinations, transfers and timetables going to one town to another. Unfortunately there is no English version, but it´s easy to use and very helpful:Fill the first field, the origin, (Municipi d´origen) and the destination (Municipi de destinació) and press the red icon. All different combinations will appear.

You Need a Car

by cynapples

The best way to see Catalunya is by car. You can always take a train to the main stops, but you'll miss tons and tons of great towns and stops along the way. It's relatively easy to drive in Catalunya, once you get used to the roundabouts. The most challenging part of driving was dodging the bicyclists along the narrow, winding coastal roads. If you're not comfortable driving in the mountains, have someone else drive, because the Costa Brava will definately test your skills.

Cheap Car Hire at Gerona Airport

by into-thin-air

We Pre-Booked our hire car through “economy car hire” on the internet, There prices are very reasonable and we had booked a 5 door Ford Fusion for 4 days at £70 including full insurance and an extra named driver. When we arrived they hadn’t a Ford Fusion available so gave us a free upgrade to a Ford Focus C Max – This was a great car, it handled well, was a diesel model and did almost 400k on 22 Euros worth of diesel !!The staff at the airport were friendly and efficient, Both pick up and handing it back were hitch free, I would recommend this company to anyone !!

Barcelona Bus Touristic

by freya_heaven

If you have limited time in Barcelona I recommend you get the Barcelona Touristic Bus. You have 3 different routes to chose from with 30 stops. The buses do the circuit continuously so there is no pressure of only having limited time at each attraction. The web site below gives brilliant information in the Touristic bus.Tickets are 17euros a day & these include discounts to various restaurants. We bought ours from Sants train station, but there are booths all over the city, plus you can also buy online from the below web site.

Trains & Buses

by freya_heaven

From our accommodation at Vilanova i la Geltrú we decided to get a train to Barcelona rather than drive in to the city. The train service was cheap, effecient & very clean. The train dropped us off at the Barcelona Sants station, an ideal starting point for the Touristic bus which cruises all the sights of interest in Barcelona.

Transportation in Barcelona and Catalunya

by xtarafa

I've seen a lot of questions about how to reach Barcelona or how to go from BCN (barcelona) to other place and so on. Here you have some useful links:http://www.renfe.es : Main train company. (includes the train which goes from airport to BCN, and to main Catalunya cities as Girona, Tarragona, Lleida, Vic, Sitges, Blanes ...). http://www.fgc.net: Other train company : Trains acting as metro in BCN and also for going to Montserrat, Manresa i Igualada http://www.tmb.net: Barcelona city bus and metro informationhttp://www.bcn.es: BCN concil town web. Clicking on "BCN map", and writing down an address you'll find the place in the map and you can get the clossest train and metro stations as well as bus stops by clicking on "Transport and related services" on the right side menu.Hope this helps !!!!

Car

by tessy

There is a good offer of public transportation, but if you wanna visit the country and visit the little places, it is easier to have a car. You can stop whenever you want and whereever you want. But if you wanna go from one town to the other, I recommend public transportation. It's rather good and cheap!

Other train information

by crazyguitar

There are two different train companies in Catalonia:-Renfe: Spanish public company. Within Catalonia, from Catalonia to Spain and within Spain. http://www.renfe.es/-Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC): Catalan public company. Within Catalonia. http://www.fgc.net/cat/Both websites have information in English, depending on the destination you are looking for you have to choose Renfe or FGC, although there are some destinations in common.
