Actually Villafranca-del-Penedes is a charming and quiet little town, with beautiful architecture. I would not say that it is a tourist destination on its own but we had to spend a night around Barcelona and I looked for a small town in the vicinity. I found Vilafranca and it was a good choice. We had a nice evening.
Peter The Great (in Spanish Pedro El Grande) was born in 1239 and died Nov. 11, 1285, at Villafranca del Panades,
He was king of Aragon under the name of Peter III from July 1276, on the death of his father, James I.
In 1262 he had married Constance, heiress of Manfred, the Hohenstaufen king of Sicily; and after the revolt of the Sicilians in 1282, he invaded the island and was proclaimed at Palermo king of Sicily as Peter I.
