What a beautiful old town! White houses, narrow and artistically curved streets, nice cafes and restaurants. One can cover the city walking in one hour or two, but one can enjoy in this town a a few says. Its extremely calm and tranquil place. There are several terraces and places through which one can see the sea view and the beaches. When you visit Alcante city, be sure to come here. There is a unique church called "Church of Our Lady". Its approximately an hour and a half train ride including the time spent on changing the train once.

Altea has a good selection of apartments for sale and for rent .Its a very clean tasteful place and you feel kind of special there. There are a few estate agents selling a good selection of houses-apartments. As Altea is on the main coast road from Alicante to Denia its easy just to pull up and have a quick look. You will not regret doing so as the beach is very very nice indeed. Altea for me felt classy. It is not a package holiday resort and has kept it's Spanish feel. It does have some hotels etc along seafront, but is still nice and clean and quiet. Beaches are amazing. Great shops. A place to relax and chill out. And near Calpe which is also worth visiting. Altea beach is one of the nicest I have seen on the Costa Blanca. The harbour area is very nice too. I will be going back to see more in the future for sure.

After we had eaten and enjoyed the views, we slowly walked back down through the narrow white washed housed streets. As we got lower near the main road, we saw a huge selection of shops. There are many shops running along beside the main road. We had a look in a few of them and then decided to have a look at the coast. Altea has around 6km's of beautiful coastline. You can walk for miles. The beach has great views of Calpe Rock in the distance. A nice sandy beach in places, pebbled in others and a trendy part which has been made into a promenade and a harbour area give it appeal. Trendy places to eat and drink. As we looked back up towards the Old Town, you could see the Blue Domed Church sitting proud overlooking the town and beach.

While we were in the Old Town after our meal we decided to take a look at the amazing viewpoint next to the restaurants. There is a huge ledge area where you can see right along the coast for miles. Stunning views. The walk uphill is worth it alone for this viewpoint. Buskers were playing here and we gave them a couple of Euros as they were very good. Altea is kind of divided into two parts, as the main road N-332 passes through and divides harbour and beach area off from main town. I found Altea still has it's Spanish appeal and charm. Beautiful white washed houses and small art shops give it charm.

We had a lovely meal in the Plaza and listened to some buskers playing music in the distance. Food was not cheap here but I guess you are paying for the location etc. We payed about £6 each for a small paella. But as I said it was worth it because of the location etc. It was easy to relax and watch people and enjoy the music and enjoy the views in the Plaza next to the blue domed church. This Plaza is at the top of Old Altea town so has amazing views of surrounding areas. Altea is 15kms North of Benidorm and close to Calpe. Alteas Nuestra Senora del Consuelo or Virgen de Consuelo ( the Blue Domed Church ) is a famous landmark on this coastline.

Driving towards BENIDORM which is just about 10 kilometers from Altea you will come accross a direction that mentions CALLOSA. Take this direction and just 3 kilometers out of this town you will come accross Fuentes de Algar, which is a small combination of mountains, greenery and waterfalls together. Simply fantastic. If the weather is good you might even have a small dip in these waters which are not at all deep. This area is sorrounded with many typical restaurants, shops and makes a perfect daytrip from Altea.

Terra Mítica is a huge theme park just outside of Benidorm, 20 minutes south of Altea. It's built up of different themes representing the mediterranean countries - egypt, the islands, greece, rome.. It's a very family friendly park with a good atmosphere. There's a lot of attractions for everybody, also the little ones. My favorite is the big rollercoaster in the mountain side. You really have to spend 2 days in this theme park to experience everything.
