Javea's Old Town
Javea is a modern tourist city, walking by the beaches and promenades, you'll find a lot of modern hotels and apartment buildings. But also has a nice old town, don't hesitate to visit this part of the city during your vacations here. Some nice places to see in the old twon, are:
IGLESIA DE SAN BARTOLOME.-4
CASA DE FELIPE BAÑUS (Archeological Museum)
IGLESIA SANTA MARIA DE LORETO.
TORRE D'EN CAIRAT-2
PORTA DE LA MAR- 1
See on the map below all these numbers.
Just behind the city,in the harbor area, you'll find on the top of a hill, some medieval windmills. They were built between the century of XVI to XVIII.Their conservation are not very good, and I don't know if they can be visited, but if you have the chance can go up and take some photos.
This is a general view of Javea, and if you enlarge the picture you'll find the windmills on the top of the hill.
LA NAO CAPE
Cabo de la Nao is a cape near Javea which is 116 m (380.5 ft) high. It is located in the very east of the Costa Blanca and offers fantastic panoramic views .Also here you will find a beautiful lighthouse!.
On top of the mountain, you will find an excellent restaurant with low prices, where you can enjoy the view while having a delicious Spanish dish.Although i didn't had a meal here,i just had a coffe because during my visit here it was late afternoon,i saw the menu at the door and i noticed also the good and cheap prices.
NATURAL PARK OF MONTGO
If you are a nature lover, then a must see in the area is THE NATURAL PARK OF MONGÓ, It is the mountain Montgó which is 753 m (2470 ft) high, offering a phantastic view over the natural park. Also from here you'll see also some awesome views of the city and Mediterranean Sea.
There are some walking tours to see all this beautiful mountain, ask in your hotel or in the information point of Javea for some information, maps or the best way to go up.I didn't had the time to go up the mountain but the views of it from Javea is very good isn`t??
The city of Javea has 25 Km. of coastline, from Cape of San Antonio to Cala de Granadella. Here you can find some nice beaches. Some of the best beaches close to the city are:
PLAYA DE LA GRAVA.
PLAYA DEL ARENAL.
PLAYA DEL BENISSERO.
PLAYA DEL TANGO
Javea's harbor it is located in an area called "Aduanas del Mar".Close to the harbor, another interesting option may be see the Church of Santa Maria de Loreto.
There are a few excursions that you can do in the harbor, one it is go for a cruise along the coastine, and another interesting one,it is take a ride in a glass bottom boat to see the underwater views of Mediterranean sea.If you have time enough also there are a few courses for Sailing,Scuba Diving etc. Also you will find a nice restaurant at the harbor.
CALPE AND IFACH ROCK
Another very interesting place to visit and very close to Moraira,(about 12 miles) it is the city of Calpe and located here it is also the Ifach Rock, that is another Natural Park.(see my Calpe page for more information).Other nice places to stop around are:
GATA DE GORGOS
From Cabo La Nao,in a clear day,you may see the silohuette of the island of IBIZA,located on Balearic Islands about 100 miles away.Unfortunately during my visit the day was clear, but it was a little bit of fog inside the sea,if you enlarge the picture you will see the shape of that island.
This is another nice place to stop,if you are visiting all Javea area and around:
Moraira nestles in the pine-clad hills overlooking fine sandy beaches, calm seas and rocky coves. This area is also renowned for its superb eating grapes grown to perfection on the neat, sunny terraces which slope gently down the sides of the valley towards the sea.
Along all coastline of Alicante and also other provinces in Spain, you will see a lot of these beautiful medieval watchtowers. They were used for posibles invasions from the sea.A few of them are very well conservated and may be a good idea go up and take a look.
That one it is located on a hill just outside of the town of Moraira.
Driving through the coastline road, you will see on small mountains and hills, this kind of residential areas, all these nice houses have a Mediterranean architecture and they looks very nice. The majority of them, are from rich people and many of them from people from other countries of Europe that come here to spend all winter season.Really all of them got awesome sea views!!
SPRING IN JANUARY!
Along all the coastline on this area, you'll find a lot of pine trees forests on mountains and hills, but in fields you will find normally orange, lemons and many almond trees. Thanks to our nice and warm weather during wintertime, don't be surprised to see some of these trees in blossom even in January!.This photo was taken on January 23th and you can see all flowers on these almond trees.
WALKING TRAIL AT LA NAO
There is a good but short walking trail at La Nao Cape. You can walk just for a small part of this place,to see the Lighthouse,go to restaurant and around.
Also at the end of the trail, you will find a lot medium size rocks, unfortunately some of the best views, that you can see here,is go climbing up to these rocks, but be careful because may be a little bit dangerous.(You can fell ground from the rocks, but not to the cliffs!)
Cabo de la Nao
Cap de la Nau, Cabo de la Nao in Spanish literally Cape of the Ship, is a headland located in the town of Javea. It is rocky, steep and mostly composed of limestone. It marks the southern limit of the Bay of Valencia. A lighthouse is located 120 meters over the sea level.

Visit the port and the Fishermen
Do go down to the port and particularly to the fishing port.
It is very colourful and there is always something going on there.
The boats have so many floats and "what-have-yous" on them they appear to be always adorned for a festival.
But that is just the way they are.
When the nets are laid out to dry their colours are really quite beautiful. My sister-n-law, a painter found lots of inspiration there.
Her partner, a ceramacist, was very interested in the terracotta pots used by the fisherman.
The fishermen's cafe on the quay is a great place for lunch too. It is out of sight of the track usually taken by tourists and we we were the only non-Spanish people there.
