FLYING.There are two airports,Alicante and Valencia..........ROAD.The main access is from France at the Eastern side of the Pyrenees via Barcelona on the motorway.............BY RAIL.The Barcelona -Talgo links Paris with Barcelona in about 11hours.................CAR HIRE.You can hire a air-conditioned car from about £100 aweek.REMEMBER to take your driving licence with you.
Calpe beach beautiful and quiet.

All the major car rental companies have outlets at the airports and main cities. There are some beautiful cars to be seen driving around in if thats your desire.
I was looking to save a bit of cash and went to a lesser known rental company and the first time I used them I was disappointed when I saw the car that was to be ours for the next week. After driving around some of the back roads over the next few days I was glad that my car wasn`t a shiny new one because I would have been scared to return it with its first scratch.
I was also happy that the car never had a sticker on it as well advertising the company, as it didn`t make it an obviously hired one and a potential target for any undesirables who may have targeted the car as belonging to `wealthy tourists`. I think its better to blend in than stand out.

Driving in Spain is pretty safe .Hiring a car is a great way to see places.Driving in the countryside is relaxing, but in the cities it can be hectic.Toll roads are paid in cash or credit cards.European,US and Canadian driving permits are valid in Spain.You must carry two warning triangles, spare light bulbs,fuses and a spare tyre.Minimum driving age is 18 and some car hire companies you have to be 21.If driving down in your own car, make sure you have proper insurance and a greencard.
Watch out for on the spot fines in Spain.Drink driving limit is 50mgs of alcohol per 100ml of blood.Speed limits are 75mph on motorways.Fuel is slightly cheaper than Uk but double of that in US.
I rented a car from Alicante airport for £103 for 10 days.A Ford Ka with air-con and all insurance etc included.This company is online and you can book online and pay online.Very good service and prices.Been with them 4 times.Skycars.They do other airports around Spain also.

British Airways and Air France fly to Spain from England.From USA and Canada Iberia flies direct to Madrid.Delta Airlines also fly from the US to Spain.Alicante has a pleasant airport and when you land its normally hastle free and you swiftly go through passport and customs and baggage reclaim and onward to your car hire or coach company.All car hire companies are in the exit to the airport, you will see them all lined up .

One month ago i booked my mother and father in law a flight to Spain for £4.99.Yes its true believe it or not.It was with Ryanair from Stanstead to Girona and the total cost including all taxes for two people one way was £30.Ryanair are also a great no frills airline and you can also check availability and book online.Again no tickets just an email with a code you print out.

	Flying to Spain

There are many companies now that fly to Spain.I go with Easyjet as they are cheap but do a good service.I have booked flights for coming spring for £50 return to Alicante .I have now flown 6 times with them and am very happy with their service.They fly to Barcelona for £12 upwards and Alicante for £30 upwards.You can goto their web site and check availability online and book online.Their are no tickets either, after booking they send you an email you just print out and you take to airport with you.
You also dont have to waste money on crappy plane meals.They bring food round(crisps, soup etc) and you can buy if u feel peckish.Prices are realistic too for snacks and drinks.

You can drive down to Spain through France from the Uk and it will take a good two days.Use the toll roads to get down faster but remember you will have to pay.But its worth paying to save hours of time.Make sure you have insurance to drive abroad and good breakdown cover.Make sure your car is in good order too.

You can travel to Spain from England by train using the channel tunnel and changing trains in Paris and staying the night on board a trenhotel.The Madrid sleeper leaves Paris Austerlitz train station at 7.47pm and gets to Madrid Chamartin at 8.58 am.You can also use the tgv and take your car along.The channel tunnel for one car costs about £200 for say 2 weeks or alot less if its one way.You can also catch a train from Paris to Barcelona.

Coastal road from Valencia to Platja de Tavernes de la Valldigna is quite pleasant but slow.
It let you enjoy the views of the rice fields and the sea, but from time to time (or from town to town I should say) you will feel disturbed with the view of ugly concrete skyscrapers that simply do not belong there.
