eat outside if you wish

Nice modern restaurant. We arrived with a large party with no advance warning and they accomodated us very well. We nearly all ate different dishes and everyone enjoyed their meal. It is an up market place so its what I describe as "posh nosh" that is small portions delicately laid out on the plate, but excellent quality.

Favorite Dish: They served a refreshing sorbet in a glass at the end - difficult to say if it was a desert or a drink but it was very very nice!

First course - grilled vegies

A very nice place, excellent service although at the time I was the first customer for the evening. Good selection of half bottles of vino. Lorinon Crianza, of tempranillo, granache, graziano and mazuelo, the last two I had never heard of.

Favorite Dish: The grilled vegetables were excellent, although I should have asked them to substitute out the eggplant. Followed by grilled swordfish. Yum. and finished with the oranges in a strawberry sauce.

Carpe Diem Restaurante: A bit too pricey for a beer...

Right across the street from the Vincci-Lys Hotel I stayed at, I thought I would test the waters so to speak by ordering a beer in the late afternoon at an outside table. 5 euro for a smallish beer was too dear for me.

Favorite Dish: I didn't try the food.

Very nice place close to the center of town just East of the bullring. The service was great, prices reasonable and the food was excellent. My meal with all the fixings and a full bottle of wine was 50 euro.

Favorite Dish: The mix of meat dishes as a first course was very good. Morcilla was very good, jamon, chorizo. The lamb chops were very tasty.

Vivir Sin Dormir: Good food, Cool and Near the Beach
djferros profile photo
djferros 50 reviews

Good food with outside and inside eating area. Electronic dart board and 2 pool tables. Clean and friendly place. Standard tapas available.

Plays that funky modern bar type music, which can get annoying after a while.

Modern young vibe. Place is cheaper then it looks. No "wow! factor" for the food but it was still good.

Favorite Dish: Patatas bravas. Quite large!

VT member Mahesh and his wife Neelam

We came here as the guests of VT member Mahesh and his wife Neelam. Mahesh is obviously known here and we were made to feel very welcome indeed. We left the choosing of the food to Mahesh and were certainly not disappointed with the food, the restaurant or the wine chosen by Mahesh himself.
The restaurant when we arrived was very busy but we were lucky enough to secure the last table.
Although very busy the waiters were extremely efficient and speedy.
Not a tourist in sight either!
The tapas were excellent and freshly made.
I would certainly come here again!! (Mahesh, please be my guest next time!)

Favorite Dish: The tapas consisited of Ensaladilla, Patatas bravas, Sepia, Gambas, Serano ham and more!

El Coso: Paella - Favorite dish from Valencia

Paella

Paella, this most famous Spanish dish, actually originates from Valencia, so dont miss out on a chance to try paella in the place where it was born.

The basis of paella is rice cooked with tomatoes and saffron, often also with onion and garlic. The paella is fried on a big special frying dish, (also called paella).

Restaurants serious about paella will usually have a few kinds of paella on offer, most popular being paella valenciana, seafood paella and vegetable paella, suitable for vegetarians:

Paella Valenciana, the most traditional kind, is done with chicken and rabbit.

Note that a freshly cooked paella made especially for you will have to be big to be cooked properly (i.e. for two people minimum) and will take at least half an hour to make, so be patient. Some restaurants will let you call in advance to get it started. And usually min order for 2 person.

Favorite Dish: This Restaurant was in the touristy port area. We ordered sepia a la plancha (grilled squid) for the starter and Paella mixta for the main dish. The Paella was very good. If you are in the area I think it is worth to try it. Cost 50€

Cerveceria Restaurante Nevada: Fideua - Valencian style seafood pasta

Fideua

Fideua is a seafood pasta cooked for 2 or more people and they bring it in a big pan. The restaurant was 15 min walk from Estacion de Norte (main train station) This place is very popular by locals. When we arrived to the restaurant it was full, they said maybe 1 hour for a table to wait. It was around 3 pm Saturday. But downstairs the tables were available, it is more casual but you eat the same food. We ordered for a starter a fried fish and for main dish Fideua for 2 and it was plenty of food. It cost 22 €

Cafe Ideal: Cheap and New!
djferros profile photo

2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

djferros 50 reviews

I thought this restaurant would be a disappointment. It has changed hands quite a few times so i thought there must be something wrong with it. However, we went anyway to check it out anyway (as it always looked nice from outside) and were pleasently surprised.

The food was OK in that it had some different dishes that you wouldn't pick up in other spanish tapas joints. The place is also clean and modern looking. (The tables were a bit annoying though for leg room but you got used to it.)

Surprisingly it wasn't that packed, possibly cause it's new, but crowds did start to appear later on during the night.

Favorite Dish: Some kind of warm cheese with a kind of jam.

Tapas ranged from around 3.75 to 5 euros a plate. We were 5 people and our total bill only came to 55.60 and it included 2 jugs of beer.. you can't complain! visit before they start putting the prices up.

Tony Roma's: Huge portions of food! American style!
djferros profile photo
djferros 50 reviews

This is a resturant situated in the 'going out' area of Valencia.

It's really a typical american restaurant, but this one is slightly different as they really have also copied the HUGE portions of food as served in the America (i assume), not just the style of food.

When i say everything is huge, i mean EVERYTHING. From the beer to a simple salad. Even the starters are big and we split them between 3-4 people.

Do not get carried away with your order as you will have so much food left over.

We came in a large group of 16 people and maybe this is why some people really got served their main a good 5-8mins after the others. We paid 20euros each, inc drink and a few starters (split).

Favorite Dish: Ribs looked good. But my tony roma's buger was nice as well.
to be fussy, it said it came with french fries but it came with chips (there is a difference to me anyway)
