Lot's of cright colours, skimpy skirts and dresses, a multitude of
tops in various styles, but nothing for the bigger woman, unfortunately.
Trendy clothes at a reasonable price. I never miss the opportunity to
stock up on cool clothes from Pimkie whenever I come to Spain!

This is a chain of stores which sells everything you could possibly
want when it comes to food and drink. A broad selection of wine
and other alcoholic beverages.
Try the own brand - Hacendado, it's cheaper but still tastes
real good!

The worlds second largest retail chain stores - Carrefour has an important presence in Valencia with aprox 10 stores you will find all that you can normally find back home at a supermarket. You might probably find them to be bigger in size over here and at pretty reasonable prices. Shopping in one of these strores is pretty comfortable as they are open from 9 in the morning till 10 at night. You have one just in front of the city of sciences.
What to buy: Any basics from eating to clothing

Probably one of the most popular names of Spain - El Corte Ingles are huge departmental stores you probably have already heard of. You find them in all big cities and are now starting to get into many smaller cities as well. In Valencia we have about 5 of them so you will not find it difficult to find th nearest to where you are. I would recommend you to visit the store that they have at the area of the city of sciences, one of their latest and the biggest they have right now in Spain ( Feb 2007 ) with 8 floors of all kinds of merchandise and 6 floors of parking. thats really huge ( Pintor Maella, 37, Centro comercial Avenida de Francia ) The structure of the building is quite attractive and the shopping space is quite comfortable. You can eat at their restaurants and shop till you fall or till your credit card says no more - so its upto you.
What to buy: Name it - they have it

Nuevo Centro is a shopping centre just to the north of Valencia town centre. It's a 15 minute walk if you are feeling energetic or if not it is right beside the Campanar Metro station which is on line 1 ( The Yellow Line ).
There is a branch of El Corte Ingles and much more. The centre has a good selection of shops for all types of goods as well as a big C & A. There is also a good selection of cafes and restaurants. We ate at a Tex / Mex american style place that was good value.

you'd like. Men's clothing, women's clothing, shoes, jewellery, food, telephones,
accessories... You can easily spend hours here. Oh, and it's open until 10 pm!
What to pay: Well, this is not the place where you find the most expensive stuff...

The Mercado Central is home to a large daily food market. Built in 1928, it is a huge glass and metal structure filled with Valencians buying fresh local produce.
The best time to visit the market is on weekday mornings. You will be treated to colourful displays of fruits & vegetables, including lots of oranges! There are also numerous deli type stands selling delicious meats, such as Iberian Ham, and all sorts of cheeses.
What to buy: If you are after fish or seafood, you can also find it here, along with all type of poultry. And of course there are many cuts of meat on offer as well - check out the pig heads in my photo?eeeuuw!!
There are also places to buy a coffee/drink or a hot meal if you become ravenous after seeing all of the delicious raw ingredients.
I would highly recommend a visit to the market. It is a great way to get a taste for the Valencian way of life.
