Our visit to Valencia coincided with the Valencia marathon. This annual event has been running since 1981 and by the looks of the number of participants, it is a pretty popular event on the marathon calendar. The runners crossed the city, causing traffic chaos due to all of the closed off roads. We happened to be walking along the route for about 30 minutes, and it was amusing to see all of the police officers controlling traffic - letting cars cross over closed roads when there was a break in the runners, signally frantically for the drivers to move as quickly as possible. I was very glad that we had chosen to walk that day, instead of taking the bus and it would have taken us a whole lot longer. To all those marathon runners out there, check out the website for more details. Leave a Comment

Malvarrosa at sunset by SirRichard This is the closest beach to the city center. In fact, you can go there by bus. Besides beach activities, there are a lot of terraces to have PAELLAS under the sun on a beach day. Above the restaurants there are a lot of little pensions too, a good place to stay in Valencia if U like the sea... Leave a Comment Theme: Beach Activities

The logo of the Cheste racing circuit by MaheshSamtani Valencia has been recently (Summer 2007) confirmed as a Formula one city which will be on a urban circuit that is been specially designed and constructed. However Valencia also counts with a proper racing circuit which is situated aprox. 30 Kilometres from the city on the highway to Madrid in a locality called CHESTE. This circuit in Cheste named after local Valenciano Motorcycling champion Ricardo Tormo was completed in 1999 and normally holds host to the last race in the world motorcycle racing championships around the month of November, every year. This make the Cheste circuit a very interesting one to visit for the races specially if the championship in certain racing categories are still to be decided - in the last race. The capacity of this circuit is for aprox. 150.000 people all seated in a way to be able to see practically the whole track and not missing a single detail of any race. The track which is a little over 4 kilometres attracts huge crowds every year who create a really special atmosphere in the city of Valencia and specially in Cheste on the days of the races. A mixture of roaring cylinders, added to the local attraction of fireworks, paella, sangria and great weather are the other ingredients that help make this event a very special one. It is normally very difficult to get hotel reservations around the dates of the racing calendar hence if you are interested in visiting Valencia for the races or just to enjoy a city break - make your plans well in advance.

The MESTALLA stadium is home to the Valencia Football club team. This is a legendary stadium that has lived many important games with mythical players and probabably all the important teams of Europe have in some occasion or other, in some competition or friendly matches have played over here. The club is now constructing their new stadium and are giving their fans the possibility of going around the stadium as it is possible in many other venues of other great teams around the continent. This stadium was inaugurated on the 20th of May 1923 and has a capacity to seat 55.000 people. The club has just celebrated its 90th birthday as it was formed on the 18th of March in the year 1919. So be sure that history awaits you during this visit. The cost is 6 Euros a person. You can book a tour from Monday to Friday, which goes on for an hour and will get to see the ground, the rooms that the teams use, the press conference room and other parts that are not normally visible when you think of a stadium. The timings are from 10 in the morning till 1 in the afternoon. You can buy your tickets at the official store in front of the stadium or book them by phone or through the clubs website. These contacts are given below.

Does not matter if you are or not a football / soccer fan. If you have a chance while you are visiting the city of Valencia and if there is a match - try to go for it. It is a magnificient experience. Not because I am a fan of Valencia, which I am proud to be so - but you will surely enjoy the game as the players are some of the best in the whole world. In recent history Valencia has won the Spanish league title twice, a UEFA cup and also was voted as the best club of the year , two years ago. It is one of the few stadiums that fill upto the brink whenever there is a match and being in a group with another 50.000 people is a real experience. You can find tickets of many prices, depending on the rival team is, but to make it simple go the the GENERAL area and you will enjoy a great experience. If you can afford to buy a ticket for a better location, better, even though it will not influence in the difference in satisfaction.
The weather in Valencia is pretty mild throughout the year hence even if it is winter you need not go in heavy winter gear, just a sweater and a light jacket will protect you from the open. If in summer the best would be if you could get an official Valencia T shirt from one of the many stores that the club has throughout the city. Theme: Sports WatchingAddress: Avenida de Aragon / Avenida de Suecia s/nPhone: 902 01 19 19Directions: The address of the stadium is Avenida de Suecia s/n. It would however be easier if you entered from Avenida de Aragon. Get some help. The stadium is an address that anybody would know and help you.Website: www.valenciacf.es
