welcome to Valencia by sue_stone Valencia airport is located about 8kms from the city centre. Usually when we arrive in a new city we like to use public transport to travel from the airport to our hotel. Not as a money saving exercise as such, but to get a feel for the place from the very start. We arrived a little later than expected in Valencia due to some fog delays at Gatwick airport, and wanting to make the most of our short visit, opted to take a taxi from the airport to our hotel. There is a taxi rank outside the arrivals terminal, and we were pleased to see plenty of cabs waiting. Jumping in the taxi, I told the driver the name of our Hotel (well, the way I hoped it was pronounced!) and we were off. The trip took 15-20 mins and cost us 15 euros (including tip). The other way to get into town is to take the Airport bus, which departs from outside the terminal every 10-15 minutes. Tickets are bought on the bus, and the trip takes about 45 mins. The trip costs around 1 euro. Alternatively, you could always book airport transfers through your hotel. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

on the way to Valencia! by sue_stone We wanted to go south for a winter weekend break, and after research decided on Valencia as flights from London were quite cheap. We flew out of Gatwick airport and back into Heathrow airport with British Airways for only £67 return, which I thought was a bargain. Other airlines that fly from the UK to Valencia include Iberia, Easyjet, Ryanair & Thomson. The airport is located around 8km from the city centre. Another way to get to Valencia would be by train, It has good rail links to other Spanish cities, such as Barcelona (3 hours) and Madrid (3.5 hours) Leave a Comment

Valencia's metro consists of 4 lines that cover the city. Each line is coloured, and the station map is pretty easy to read (looking a little like the London Tube map) Some of the stations are pretty fancy looking, and we felt safe and comfortable using this method of transport during the day. Fares start at 1.20 euro for a single trip. You can buy tickets from machines at the stations or from the ticket office. If you are planning to use the metro (and other forms of transport) a lot, you may be better off buying a combined travel card, or perhaps the Valencia tourist card, which covers all transport and discounts on admittance to museums etc. Leave a Comment

Boat trip by nhcram Take a relaxing boat trip around Valencia's port, the biggest commercial port in Spain. The price of around 10 Euro inluded a light lunch and the trip lasted for about an hour. Ok if you like ports and shipping but I would have preferred to walk on the beach! Walk to the port area and they are moored alongside the quay. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

by belgianchocolate With a brand new airplane we arrived at 'Valencia' from Brussels. It is cheap safe and works like a low budget company. You book the tickets from the internet and print them yourselves. It was an airplane with 180 seats. The first time I was able to pick the seats myself in advance. So on both flights we had leg space at the emergency exits. Tickets get more expensive when the plane get fuller. Check for promotions. Drink are not for free , and no food served. The terminal at Valencia is near the city center... Leave a Comment

by belgianchocolate There is a very beautiful train station almost in the center of town 'Estacion del norte' There are good connections with for instance 'Barcelona' and 'Madrid' and apart from traveling safe and fast it is also not that expensive. (I think it is quit cheap) Check for schedules at the link below. Leave a Comment

Alameda metro station by tini58de Valencia has a very modern Metro, which we found especially convenient getting from the airport into town and back to the airport. In March 2008 a single ticket (Zona AB) from the airport to Valencia Alameda station was 1.80 €. You can buy these tickets at a ticket counter or a ticket machine. Two things we would like to bring to your attention: 1) after you get on the metro, do not throw away your ticket, because you need it to get out of the station again! 2) tickets from the vending machines are only valid on that particular day - so do not make the same mistake that we made, when we bought tickets ahead of time in order not to take any chances of broken machines or so at 5 a.m. in the morning! This was wasted money ..... For an idea of where the metros will take you, have a look at this pdf plan. Leave a Comment

We flew to Valencia from Baden Karlsruhe on a Ryanair flight. There are quite a few budget airlines now flying to Valencia, so check it out! The airport is very close to the city, so when approaching the city, you have spectacular views of Valencia! The airport has a metro connection into Valencia, which makes it VERY convenient.
