Valencia's airport is located in Manises, a 15 minute ride from downtown. Although it is an international airport, there are only flight to the most important European destinations, but in most cases, you will have to change your plane in Madrid or Barcelona or other important European airports.
The best way to go to/from the airport is by taxi. There are also public buses, but they do not ride very frequently and take ages. Do not be fooled by the renfe "manises aeropuerto" station, as it is not located exactly at the airport, and you will have to carry your luggage across an unhospitable road to reach the terminal.
