Only some areas of the old city are pedestrianised, the rest being totally invaded by parked cars and noisy motorbikes. There are also many uncivic drivers who park their car in any place.
This is an aspect of the huge Queen's square in front of the cathedral. Despite of the neighbor's claims, a large part of it is used as a parking lot. Leave a Comment

Gorrillas are people you´ll find in places like the beach parking, or at the downtown Valencia. You´ll always find them in important parking places, directing you while you are parking.
They are not official people in charged of it, and if one does ask you som money for helping, well most people do give it, as there have been cases of this people breaking a side mirror or making scratches on the car, so beware of them. Leave a Comment

The old area of Valencia was affected by a major flood in 1957. In the aftermath of the catastrophe, many people left the area for more modern neighborhoods. In addition, urban speculation has also taken its toll and, despite the efforts of the local authorities in the last two decades, there are still some areas in the old city that look really decrepit and dilapidated: ruins, buildings falling apart... In sumary, an urban landscape that would rather fit in Chechnya than on the sunny Mediterranean.
This does not mean that the old city should be avoided, but one has to be prepared for all kinds of sights.
Anyway, be aware that some parts of the Velluters and El Carme neighborhoods may look a bit scary, as prostitution and drugs are not uncommon. Of course, taking the usual precautions, they are not particularly dangerous. Leave a Comment
