When arriving at Barajas airport it is recommended that you consider using the Shuttle transport to City centre hotels in Madrid.
Leganes is to the South West of the city. the Shuttle tends to need to quote a fixed price (Around $27) to Leganes. The benefit is that you get a shuttle to yourself.
The Madrid citizens are all quite local and do not be surprised if the drive has to ask a lot of people for directions.

There is a brand spanking new metro system in the Leganes area. It acts a a Loop.
One of the hand off points for the Loop takes you to Madrid via Attocha Station.
The trains are very modern and clean and well worth using. The ticketing system is a bit confusing.
The main station in Leganes is slightly outside the central street.
