    Plaza Colon

by surferob Updated Aug 5, 2004 60 reviews

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: At Plaza de Colon there is a long, wide fountain that flows down into a pool below. I tried to take a fun picture or two, they turned out okay I guess. Just over my head in this shot is where the big flag and monument stand.

In general this is a pleasant area for strolling and people-watching.

    One more Skater pic

by surferob Updated Jan 24, 2004 60 reviews

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: There must have been six or eight of them scattered about, working on their tricks. Only one was really very talented, this guy here. He could do a tail grind along the bench or bust a big kick flip at will, landing almost everything. I had to get lucky with the timing, due to the digital camera's shutter lag, and did on a couple of shots. Like I said, this kid was good.

Notice the look of complete indifference on the faces of the passers-by. Are they being snobbish? Hey, that's some real talent you're ignoring, come on!

    Skateboarding is NOT a Crime

by surferob Updated Jan 23, 2004 60 reviews

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: At least not in Madrid, apparently. A bit of irony: here in Southern California, where skateboarding was born, you'd be arrested for doing what these kids were doing, right out in the open and seemingly with no fear of the authorities. I've seen it all around Europe - skateboarding is thriving and I say, "good". People here are too uptight.

    En route II

by Lalique Updated Dec 15, 2003 693 reviews

Favorite thing: Have you heard the story about a Spanish guy who discovered a new continent? - wispered Madrid into my ear and winked at me. - Here is the monument in his honour.... actually two of them... the old one looking like a colomn and the new one slightly behind copying Picassos cubic period....

Well, I haven't told Madrid at that time, but I liked the old monument better, more elegant and nice, I don't fancy these modern cubic stuff...

    Centro Cultural de la Villa

    The waterfall

Favorite thing: This cultural centre includes a theatre, a cafe (with live shows) and an exhibition hall. You can find schedules in the "Guia del Ocio" and in the main newspapers.
It is located in the basement floor of the Colon Square, under the statue.
I always remember the entrance of this place as one of my first memories of Madrid. Here you can find a little waterfall falling around you, creating a ver special atmosphere, like being inside a waterfall...
