Wherever we went (and not only in the city centre) streets were kept clean and streets cleaner working anywhere. Good point for a modern-traditional european city! :)
In most places English is not spoken and if you want to be understood it is good to speak at least a little bith Spanish. Also, in a restaurants menus are mostly only in Spanish.
This statute at the Puerta de Sol is the symbol of the city. It also a landmark Madridilenos use to meet at.
