Museo Chicote: where Frankie used to drink...

    by sue_stone Written Mar 20, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is a 1930s art deco bar, which is famous for never having closed during the Civil War.

The seats are still the originals, which means that you could be sitting where any number of famous people sat many years ago.

We had a couple of cocktails and soaked up the atmosphere.

Shame about the really tacky 80's music they were playing - where was the Rat Pack when we needed them!!

Plaza Mayor Places: Plaza Mayor Places

by jamiesno Written Nov 2, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is just a very general tip I guess but in the Plaza Mayor area there are plenty of places to go and eat and drink and party.

I don't know the name of this place but I found some spot right at Plaza Mayor for some Sangria.

    Hmmmm :-)

Calle de las Huertas (Huertas Street)

by Redang Updated Nov 21, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

A lively street especially on the weekends.

In the city centre, the street goes from Paseo del Prado to Plaza del Angel.

Metro: Sol (lines 1, 2 and 3), Sevilla (line 2), Antón Martín (line 1), the closest, although once you are at Puerta del Sol, you can find it easily with your map or just asking.

    El Mago: The Wizard

by vanessadb Written Aug 12, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

El Mago (read The Wizard) is a charming small bar in the Malasaña district open till late. It's basically composed by a bar, that almost takes up all the space, but if you're lucky you might find a comfortable seat in one of the cute little niches behind... some of these offer you a pretty romantic setting ;-)

Drinks are cheap too, so it's a pretty good place to go to relax a bit before heading to the afterhours to dance yourself away.

La Fabrica de Pan: Bar de copas

by vanessadb Written Jul 4, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This bar is a classical of the Noche Madrileña (Madrid Nightlife). As its name reveals, it was built in an old bread factory, which is why you'll find the old oven in the back. Other than that, you'll find good music, a trendy crowd and good decent drinks like they know how to make in this country! =)

    Teatro Real (Royal Theatre/Opera Theatre)

by Redang Updated Oct 17, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I must admit that I didn't know if I should add Teatro Real to "Things to Do Tips" or "Nightlife Tips", but finally I decided to add it to both of them.

In the Teatro Real you can enjoy Opera, Classical Music and Dance.

    Ars: Nice lounge

by vanessadb Written Jul 29, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Located in the gay and trendy district of Chueca, Ars is a pretty new and trendy lounge, beautifully decorated. Colourful and dimmed lighting, mattresses and comfy sofas, and laid-back atmosphere.

One little piece of advice though: do not sit near the ice machine at the bar as it makes a very disturbing and loud noise every time the waitress makes a mojito. And people seem to be drinking a lot of them these days ;-)

El Viajero: Great Bar & Terrace

by vanessadb Written Jul 4, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

El Viajero is a great bar and restaurant in the very cool La Latina district of Madrid. Set on three floors, you can choose which of them better suits your mood: downstairs have lunch or dinner at the cafe/restaurant; on the 2nd floor have a drink or various in a bar ambiance; or go upstairs to the wonderful terrace on the 3rd floor and get an aerial view of this artist's community while enjoying a tapeo or a drink.

A little more expensive than average, but so worth it!

    Dekonya: Cool bar

by vanessadb Written Jun 20, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Dekonya is an essential nightlife spot. It's a dim litted bar with colorful walls and a long hallway that takes you to a 'backroom' with a dance floor. Trendy and cool.

Fun fact: its name means 'as a joke' ;-)

    Warhol's Club: Late Afterhours

by vanessadb Updated Aug 12, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When 5am comes around and you feel like the night is still young, Warhol's Club is a pretty good choice. It remains open till 10am (noon on Sundays), doesn't charge you cover to get in, plays pretty decent music and has a pretty nice crowd and a central location. It is a bit of a meet market of course, but a decent one, besides what else can you expect after all at that point of the 'night'....

I'll see you there cause I have this strange feeling that it just might become one of my usual hangouts =P

Los Delirios is a trendy bar/ restaurant of Mexican owners. The Menu includes many varietites of Asian/ American/ European Cusine.

Los Delirios occupies the spot of what used to be the very famous Spaniard Cerveceria de Correos.

The owners and Managers are good friends and therefore this has been a meeting point for our group of friends. A good place to watch soccer games as they have many screen tv.

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There is a place like this in every big city. A club were you will find all sort of characthers: from the obvious tourist than never found the not so obvious clubs, to the yupiest locals. Let's admit it, all of us have been in places like this for different circunstances. Like it or not.

Most of us arrivied the same night and as usual we wanted to devore Madrid. Monday night the options were limited. We just needed a place where we could get some drinks and music. And being at a walking distance from home, it was the best option.
