Casa Rua is one of those places that fed our fathers and grandfathers. The bocadillos are excelent however the plase itself changes it spirit.
When we ate there is 2005 the place was full of local men and the bill was still writen down with chock on the bar.
In 2007, place was full of tourists and we got bill printed out of computer with the touch screen.
World is moving forward!!! Catch it if you still can!!!

    Casa Rua: Squid sandwich anyone?

    VT members outside Casa Rua.

A small bar located just off the Plaza Mayor. It is very popular at lunchtime and seems to be notorious in Spain, for its main dish.

Favorite Dish: Bocata de Calamares, that is fried squid in a large bread roll. Have it with a beer its lovely.

"Bocata de Calamares" (squid sandwich) is a typical cheap speciality of Madrid. You can have them in many places around the Plaza Mayor, but my favourite is Casa Rua, in a little street between Plaza Mayor and San Miguel Market.
You can have it there with a beer or wine, or take it away and eat it at the Plaza Mayor, admiring the square buildings.

Favorite Dish: Sandwiches of calamari, green peppers, tortilla, chorizo, patatas bravas...
