Madrid, "La Plaza de Toros" Bull-ring
Bullfighting is a very popular tradition in Spain, especially in Madrid. I think it’s a cruel tradition, but some consider it an Art.
Madrid's bull ring is the largest in the country, and the second largest in the world. Only the Bull Ring in Mexico City is larger. Each major city in Spain has una plaza, and bullfights are generally held each Sunday during the Spring and Summer.
Equipment: Bull and man
The Plaza de Toros (also known as Las Ventas), is Madrid's bullring. All of the great bullfighters have competed here, but I have never seen a bullfight so I don't feel qualified to discuss it. I wasn't sure if I should put this under "sports" or if it is more of a cultural event. Obviously, this is a controversial subject, but at some point in my life, I would love to witness the spectacle of a bullfight and maybe then I'll decide it it's for me.
The season runs from March through October.
Bull fight Matadors
the parade of the bull-fighters and their entourage, and all the other people who will have some part to play in the event such as the "picadores" on their horses and carrying their lance, the "banderilleros" who are dressed like the bull-fighters but whose function is to run at the bulls and stick darts into their backs as a preliminary to the bull-fighters work. There are others similarly dressed- the "Peones" - but whose function is simply to play with the bull with their coloured capes so that the bull-fighter can watch the way that the bull charges and turns with his horns.
BULLFIGHTING A SPORT? ARE YOU JOKING?
i know that bullfighting is a very controversial topic. thera are many reasons to be against it, and devotees have probably as many to be in favour ... but in any case i think it can never be considered as a sport and i dont know anybody keen on bullfighting that think in other way
pls, dont compare bullfighting to fishing, it has nothing to do with it (though, neither i think about fishing as a sport )
The "Mulillas" also take part in the parade and these are the men and horses which will drag the body of the dead bull from the ring.
