If you like good basketball and want to have a great time, don't miss a match of Estudiantes together with its supporters called "La Demencia".

It is not a good idea to go biking inside Madrid. There are nearly no bike paths along the streets. You can hire bikes near the Attocha railroad station at Karocel Sport (calle de Tortosa 8, 915399633) and you can get your bike at the train to get to the surroundings of Madrid where you can have a bike tour in the countryside. Sport Natura (Avenida Donastiarra 4, 914036161) hires bikes too and organise transportation to Sierra Pobre where you have nice bike trails.
Equipment: you can hire the bikes.
Swimming can be done at the club de campo (carretera de Castill, 915502027); at the puerta hierro (carretera de el prado, 913161547); at the centro de natacion M86 (calle de jose Martinez de Velasco 3, 914095351) and at the canal de isabel 2 (avenida de filipinas 54, 915331791). For sailing, canoing and surfing you can get in touch with Sport Natura (Avenido Donostiarra 4 posterior, 914036161.
Equipment: sufing, canoing and sailing equipment can be hired at the complex of Sport Natura
There is a gym that is around 100 US a month, but it is right across from the Moncloa station. It is a nice center with plenty of equipment and decent music. The people there were really nice. I was trying to remember my spanish as I had just arrived and they were very patient. The place gets crowded later in the evening, but still enough for all. I found that they even have a personal trainer there to help you and it doesnt cost any more money. Of course after a good work out, I met some cool people and we all went for water at a little bar, then an hour later we stared drinking with TAPAS! SWEET!!!
I love running in urban environments, and Madrid is a great place for that. Here's a list of my favorite places for running:
- Parque de El retiro: It's the second biggest parc in Madrid (first one's La Casa de Campo). In summer trees protect you from the sun most of the time. It's never crowded, but there's always people there. And it's very nice. I don't recomend La Casa de Campo because sometimes is not safe.
- La Castellana: One of Madrid's Main Avenues. It's good if you're looking for an urban race (don't enter the Picasso square at night) and it doesn't have any ramps.
- University District: If you like ramps, go to the parc near the university district, on the western part of Madrid.
Equipment: The best thing about running is that you don't need special equipment. Just a pair of running shoes, and sport clothes adapted to the climate. Maximum temperatures reach 45 C in summer (run early in the morning or at night!), and the minimum is -5 in winter, at night.
I had to see where my favorite team plays. The Santiago Burnabeu . I arrived in Mid to late May so tickets were not available b/c the football season has ended. To my dismay Real Madrid finished second to a very good Barcelona Team. But getting to see my favorite team I will leave to another time.
Equipment: What gear to bring is simple. If ever attending a Real Madrid game bring your passion.
This country club, set in 200 hectares of parkland, has been here since 1932. It offers some of the best facilities available in Madrid for various sports including tennis, golf, horse riding and more. The 36-hole golf course has nine par three holes and it's open to non-members, although you might think the green fees are expensive.
Equipment: You can hire all the necessary equipment and use the child-minder service, putting green, clubhouse or sign up for private lessons.
Well I did not came here to see any match, but I came to see Depeche Mode on 2001. Thsi was my second time to see them in direct, as the first time was on the Palacio de Deportes on the 1991.
A cool way to see hot guys!!! Ohhhh Phillypoussis!!!! ... Yeah, for a girl like me that dont understand a thing about tennis, going to a tennis cup is like watching a fashion parade for guys) But I did learn about tennis! AND human muscles... :) Chalalala...... When is the next tennis cup??? where????
Real Madrid, the best Football Club in the world. It is worth visiting the hall of trophies won along more than 100 years of brilliant history.
A great experince if you have Sunday morning free, at less tahn 10 kms. from the city centre. The races are usually in Spring and Fall.
