Real Academia Española, Madrid
The Royal Academy of Language Neo Greek classic building was constructed between 1891 and 1894 in an upmarket area between the Parque del Reitro and the Prado. The Academy was founded in 1713 and was modelled on the French Academy. Its intention is to preserve and encourage the Spanish language.
Modelled after France's Académie Française, the Real Academia Española regulates the Spanish language. Although the Academia was founded in the early 18th century, it wasn't until 1894 that the institution moved into the existing building (see photograph). The Academia is located next behind el Prado and right next to San Jerónimo.
