If you are going somewhere to the south or east of Madrid, this is the station for you. The high speed AVE train which connects Madrid with Sevilla departs from here. I went to Toledo from Atocha, which also serves Cordoba, Malaga, Valencia and Castelon among others. For more information of train travel in Spain, go to: www.renfe.es/ingles/index.html
One of the two main train stations in Madrid (the other one is Chamartin). Located in front of the Reina Sofia Museum. Trains for the south (Cordoba, Sevilla, Cadiz, Malaga, Huelva...).
Come with enough time to admire the interior tropical garden (see photo) at the old station building. They've got many kinds of tropical plants as well as turtles and fishes.
Atocha Railway Station is situated just in the centre of historical part of Madrid. Only 5 minutes walk to Prado Museum.
After events in March 2005 this station Is wellknow all over the world.
Atocha Train Station is ideal for travelling to Portugal and Madrid suburbs. From Here we took a return train ticket to go to Toledo.
This photo is of the old section of the station....now turned botanical garden!
A lovely thing to find in this very large and very busy train station!
