Walk along the Marina @ Darseana de la Marina. You will find lots of nice cafes to have breakfast, coffee etc. There are different prices on the menu, and cheapest is on the bar, and then table service but most expensive to sit on the terrace.
There are also lots of nice eateries, and also fast food like Burger King is. Nearby is the Tourism Office, where you get lots of information of the town, and also what to do, day trips etc.
But the nicest bit of the marina is to stand back and look at the marvelous and too pretty looking facade...which is simple white balconies... so clean looking and so modern!!!

The Torre de Hercules is the oldest lighthouse in the world which still works. It's a 2nd century lighthouse on the end of a peninsula.
According to legend, it was built by Hercules himself.
Take a walk up the 239 steps for a stunning view of the city, the harbour/port, the beach bay and the countryside.
My mum and I walked up when I was younger. Let me tell you, you really need a rest at the top!

A well worth visit it the only roman lighthouse, II century, in the world. Although rebuilt in 1791, you can admire the great arquitecture, the enviroment & the wonderful views from the balcony!
The fee is 2€, well worth the money.

On the evening of 6th January, which is when the Spanish open their Christmas presents, there is a parade in the main streets of La Coruna. It starts at the town hall, processes along the main street and goes on for about an hour.
The people on the floats throw sweets and chocolates and the stalls themselves have flowers, decorations and christmas lights.
It is a very beautiful sight!
(I will post a photo when I find one. If anyone has one please send it to me.)

Address: Main streets, starts at the town hall.
Towards the end of the 19th century the rich made the most of the new area to build luxurious houses in the styles of Vienna and Paris.
The majority of the city's Modernist buildings are to be found in the streets of Juana de Vega, Picavia, Feijoo, Plaza de Lugo and Plaza de Pontevedra.

The Plaza de Maria Pita divides the old town from the new.
Maria Pita, a local housewife, was said to have spotted the approach of Drake's troops and risking her own life, she fired a cannon shot to alert the citizens to an imminent invasion. For that heroic act she is revered.

The main atraction of Coruna is The Torre de Hercules. It is a century old lighthouse, and nobody really knows how old excactly, as it has been rebuild over time.
When going in, do not expect any fancy and flashy things to see, as it is just a tower with some panoramic views from the top.

On one walk along the east side of the City I passed the Old Castle or Fort, I wish now That I had visited the location, for a better view of the harbour entrance.
No doubt the Fort or Castle was a defensive fortification to prevent enemies from attacking the more vulnerable south side of the City.

The lighthouse was my reference point as I walked around the bay. It was almost always visible and helped give some scale to the size of the bay as well as the buildings around the bay.
The south end of the bay is Playa de Riazor.

The photo safari in A Coruna continues with a view over a large beach , Playa del Orzan this extends to Playa Riazor, both of which on a fine sunny day are full of people. The sand stretches in a semicircle for at leat 2 km, it is quite wide and suitable for beach games, swimming as well as walking along the promenade.
Since my visit in 2000 and as a result of joining Vt I know of one Vter who lives with his family in the apartment block overlooking the bay, it is the curved one with the red roof. Small world indeed.
