Corua is 70 Km north of Santiago

Updated April 2008
AIRPORT, BUS AND TRAIN STATIONS - The airport (Alvedro) is 10 Km far, 25 min by bus (1.35 euro, several stops around the city, every 1/2 hour M-F, every hour S&S), 10 min by taxi (10-20 euro). The train and bus stations are located in front of each other, 1 Km off the city center. Train schedules: www.renfe.es. Bus schedules, check www.alsa.es which is the biggest company, and also call the bus station 981 184 335 as there are many other routes served by smaller companies without a webpage.

HOW TO GO TO SANTIAGO: trains (4.00-5.50 euros) are cheaper and more confortable than buses (6 euros), buses depart every hour and are usually faster.

HOW TO GO TO MADRID AND BARCELONA: If you can book in advance (2-3 weeks), try to get an air ticket. If you can't book in advance, buses are more frequent, faster and cheaper than trains. Fares to Madrid: Easyjet from 20 euros, bus 30 euros, train 20 (web fare booked +2 weeks in advance) or 50 euros.
The airlines you should definitely check are: Easyjet, Clickair and Vueling, and you might also check Iberia, Spanair, Air Europe and Air Berlin.
To increase your chances of getting a cheap ticket, consider arriving/departing from Santiago.
How to get to the Santiago airport (Lavacolla)? you have 2 options, first option is the bus (shuttle) that goes from the Hotel Atlántico directly to the airport, 6 euro. However it goes only once a day at 10:30 am and returns from the airport at 11:30 am. If it suits you, call 981 257 082 to confirm. Second option is to go to Santiago and take a bus to the Airport from there, check www.empresafreire.com for schedules.
If you have time I recommend you the bus/train to visit some really great places on the way (León, Astorga, Burgos, Salamanca, Segovia, etc)

INTERNATIONAL DESTINATIONS: check Clickair, Ryanair, Vueling and Iberia

TRANSPORTATION WITHIN THE CITY: routes of the city buses: www.busurbano.tk price 1 euro each ride. Taxis are a great option if you are 3/4 people

There are several airlines that arrives to La Coruna. For us it was either Iberia air, or British Airways - they co-shares the flights anyway. So look at their website for the best rates. Nothing is served on board...but you can always buy - say one euro for a small glass of juice!!!

Tram #1

The tram system is normally only available in the summer although this may have changed to all year round since my last visit.

It runs along the seaside promenade from the Castillo de San Antón to the soccer/football stadium Estadio Razor, via the Torre de Hercules lighthouse.

I preferred the bus to move around Galicia. There are more links with other places than the train. It's not close to the centre, as well as the bus station. The train station address:
San Cristobal street

Airport Alvedros is 9 kilometres from the city. It's a small airport since there are not many flights. Take a taxi (it's not expensive) cause otherwise you have to take the bus which takes you to the bus station of A Coruña. It only passes three times a day.
9:15h.
16:45h.
20:45h.

A long drive from Santander
MUFConTour profile photo
MUFConTour 60 reviews

Although the distance is only 300 miles, the drive from Santander to la Coruna is a long haul. On the ferry one guy (ok so he was an Arsenal fan!) even wanted to bet that it was only a five minute taxi ride from the ferry port and went away to come back with the biggest road map I've ever seen, only to be proved wrong of course. A couple of Man U fans on foot were planning to get there by train or bus, found out they could get neither ending up hiring a car, whilst 2 others we didnt meet till back on the ferry on the return never made it out of Santander! However the drive is spectacular, via coast and through Mountain passes. Allow 5-6 hours

La Coruna Airport, around 5 miles from Centre. A domestic only airport, served 5 times a day by Iberia. Expect to pay around £120 GBP for a return flight from Madrid.
Very Small city, so taxis and buses are the only way. Plenty about though.

The Tourist Tram

Operates on a 30 minute cycle - the tram travels along the Atlantic coastline from Puerta Real to Palacio de los Deportes. The cost of the fare is one euro, but if you have a Coruna Card it is free.
