Near Portonovo there is a karting track. It has 2 tracks: one for adults and one for children, being that in this later one there are karts for one person or 2 persons. The name of the track is Paris-Dakart and their website is: www.parisdakart.com

    Karts cost (as of July 2009) is: children 10 euros/ 7 minutes; adults 14 euros/ 7 minutes.
Apart from the kart, they also provide other activities, such as quad motos, slide and pedal boats on their lake.

During our stay, we only explored 2 beaches in the area:

    - the Playa Montalvo, which was only a mere 90 metres walk from our apartment, is a large white sand beach with pristine and calm water. If it wasn’t for the temperature you might think you were in some tropical destination! Beware of low tide, as we were advised to wear some footwear (I didn't understand which, but apparently you may get bitten by some fish in the sand). In the beach, which holds a blue flag (summer 2009), you may rent a pedal boat for 9 euros/ 30 minutes or 12 euros/ hour (July 2009) and enjoy the calm waters while doing some exercise!

    - the Playa Major, which is situated in front of the karting.
We went once to this beach and personally I didn't enjoy it. It is very beautiful but I didn't like the water, although it held a blue flag there was a stream of water running into the sea and I must confess it didn't smell too well, ...

We went twice to this restaurant; food is good and the location is very pleasant. It is situated by a cliff overlooking the sea, and it is ideal for having some tapas at the end of the day or dinner.

We tried the "arroz con bogavante" - rice with seafood, similar to lobster. It costs 20 euros/ person and it was very good. They only cook this plate for at least 2 persons. Also, we tried the typical "pulpo a la galega" - octopus cooked in the Galician way with olive oil and paprika, quiet tasty and ideal for tapas. We also tried their "calamares a la plancha", which are fresh squids grilled and served with French fries, delicious!

Prices are just about average and location is superb, overlooking the sea.

Favorite thing: Portonovo is a nice and quiet fishing village, surrounded by nice beaches and neighbour to bustling beach resort Sanxenxo. It has a good offer concerning restaurants and shops, where you may find everything you need for your stay in the area.

While in the area, we went to the beach - the main reason for staying there -, explored the Rias Baixas' coastal line and visited Santiago de Compostela. Also, there is a karting nearby which provided some extra fun to our enjoyable stay. During summer months - mainly July and August - there is an arts craft fair along the coastal path where you may buy cheap stuff.

Portonovo also has a long beach, with white sand and calm water (it is a bay, situated after the harbour and marina). Being so close to the harbour and the marina, the water didn't look as clean as the other nearby beaches.

Portonovo, by the beach and harbour.
