by Ribeirasacra

Where in Eire?Dublin to Madrid with· AIR NOSTRUM L.A. MEDITERRANEO· AER LINGUS· IBERIA· RYANAIRThen drive. Or fly to one of the three airports.Dublin to BCN· AER LINGUS· RYANAIR· Then fly to one of the three airports· Fly Dubin to Oporto and drive to Galicia. But do not take the toll roads which are electronically tolled (with no manned booths9 It is difficult to pay the toll or you get fined for not paying them.Rent a car? I have found 123 car search good. Here is the tiny url for the website.http://bit.ly/y1EKYFWhere to sleep? All officially listed and inspected properties are in http://www.turgalicia.es/ This website is also good for giving you suggestions on what to see and do.

Public transport in Galicia

by Ribeirasacra

There are basically 2 ways of getting from Vigo to Sarria using public transport.Route 1 Vigo -Santiago - Lugo - Sarria.Route 2 Vigo- Monforte – Sarria.Route 1 Take a bus or train between Vigo and Santiago. Bus to Lugo and bus to Sarria.http://www.renfe.com/http://www.monbus.es/horarios/consulta.php?origen=57&destino=2&fecha=http://www.empresafreire.comhttp://www.monbus.es/horarios/consulta.php?origen=5&destino=14&fechaRoute 2 Take a bus or train between Vigo and Monforte. Bus from Monforte to Sarria.http://www.renfe.com/http://www.vibasa.com/lineas_vibasa.php?ididioma=1Trains run less often than buses. Trains can be a bit more expensive than buses. The websites I have given links to are not always easy to navigate so you may have to do a bit of research of your own.

Around Galicia by train

by bijo69

There are two different companies operating a train service in Galicia. The bigger one is Renfe which offers connections from major Galician towns to destinations around Spain aswell as regional services in Galicia. The other one is Feve which operates a narrow gauge train service from Ferrol along the North coast to Bilbao.Train fares in Spain are still quite low compared and taking the train is usually cheaper than travelling by bus.

Great Bus Service

by into-thin-air

Santiago de Compostella has a Great Bus Service, Busses depart from the bus station which is in walking distance of the city centre and you can catch busses to all over Spain !! we caught a bus out to Ferrol and then at the end of the trip caught another back from Pontedeume back to Santiago de Compostella. Busses are prompt, clan and fairly spacious. Also there is a Great Cafe at the bus station with a good menu and fair prices !!!

Take the Train to the Coast !!!

by into-thin-air

Taking the train to the coast is a great way to travel. there is a regular service from Santiago de Compostela to Coruna, then it is possible to change there and catch the train onwards as far as Ferrol with RENFE ( Then if you wish you can continue along the coast all the way as far as Bilbao on the narrow gauge railway ( FEVE ))Please note that the service between Coruna and Ferrol is Very Limited -- We caught an Early train from Santiago de Compostela and then had to wait for 5 hours in Coruna before catching the Train onwards to Pontedeume ( on the Ferrol line ) However we utilised our time well and enjoyed sightseeing around Coruna which we found to be quite a Beautiful city, especially the old part and around the harbour !!!!

Walking around

by micas_pt

To explore Galicia’s cities the best option is to walk. Cities and towns are not that big and walking around will be the wisest option to admire the great architecture of cities such as Santiago de Compostela. So, when arriving at a city, park your car and wander around. Most cities have good parking facilities.

On the road

by micas_pt

To explore Galicia’s natural landscapes - beaches and mountains – I would advise to travel by car. It will allow travellers to go off the beaten path places, with few visitors around. Roads are ok and safe. To arrive in Galicia, both from other Spanish destinations or from Portugal, there are highways or similar roads. Within Galicia, to arrive in some smaller villages and to wander through the mountains the roads are narrower and winding.

On foot

Another way to know and visit the great Galicia is doing the Saint James way on foot. There are several trails, the Portuguese, the Spanish and the French. For centuries, pilgrims bound for Santiago de Compostela preferred the Ponte de Lima(Portugal) way (part of the military Roman road leading from Braga to Astorga) for its being shorter, however harder and rougher across the Labruja mountain. This Santiago route is still maintained and is among the best preserved in Europe. A milestone of this road (turned pillory) can be seen at Bertiandos, on the courtyard of a stately house.

Direct buses between Santiago and Lugo

by Ribeirasacra

The above answer is not quite so good. The route this bus company takes goes via A Coruña and takes over 2 hours. There is a direct service between Santiago and Lugo.http://www.empresafreire.com

By car

The best way to visit all this beautiful Galicia is by car. The roads are great and very well signalized.
