    Bairro de Berbes
    by micas_pt
The best way to know Vigo is to walk around the city. Vigo isn't too big so it won't be that exhausting and I surely won’t take too long.

If you arrive by car, there is a public (paid) underground parking space where you can park safely your car in a neighborhood called "Bairro de Berbes". This is a nice neighborhood to start your visit since it is very old - it used to be where sailors lived. It is also near the sea (port).

Vigo is one of the most important ports in Europe and many cruise liners call into the port each year. It still has a thriving fishing industry.
This picture was taken from Parque Do Castro. The views of the port are spectacular.

  • I am a train lover but it is possible to go by bus from Madrid - (Auto-res).
By train go either via Zamora - through line to Vigo or Pontevedra - or via Leon - change to train for Vigo. If going to Zamora you may like to get the train as far as Ourense and change to the local train for Ribodavia.
If you do stay the night at Ribodavia it is best to go to the Hostal Plaza in the Plaza Mayor - quite a walk from station but right in the heart of the town - a splendid introduction to Galicia.

  • Well, at first to get Vigo, you can arrive by plane, by train, by bus, by highway and by ship. Choose wich do you prefer best. After that, to arrive the island, you must catch a ship(no cars allowed-2000 pts go and back)in the
port, in a building of 'Naviera Illas de Ons)

To go around, by feet or in urban bus. If you want to see
other areas, it´s better to rent a car or to use the ship to Cangas or Bayona.

  • Wild Horses Sculpture - Vigo
    Wild Horses Sculpture
    by micas_pt
To me, this sculpture represents Vigo, as if it was its symbol. I have always been fascinated by this beautiful piece, … It represents 5 horses climbing up a chain, and it is as "light" as 40 tons, and 18m high. This is a work of the sculpture Xoán Xosé Oliveira.

This bronze sculpture honours the wild horses that run across unspoilt Galicia, and it was created as a tribute to them. You can still find wild horses around Vigo's hills. Every year there is a ceremony in which these wild horses are marked - the curros (festivals) of Mougás and Torroña.

Another impressive sculpture by an important Galician artist - Ramon Conde.

The fishermen have always played an important role in Vigo's history and economic activities. This sculpture is a tribute to fishermen and their work. It represents seven men pulling their fishing nets. This sculpture is 8,5m long and 2,5m high and it was built between 1987 and 1990.

A tall bronze sculpture of 5 horses going up a torrent by Juan Jose Oliveira.
It is in the centre of Plaza de Espana and is a tribute to the wild horses inhabiting Monte del Castro. Wild horses can still be found in the hills near Vigo.
