10 Things to Do in Granada

by jwolf420

Top Ten Things to Do in Granada (that you won’t find in a guidebook)To experience this top 10 list and much, much more, take one of our exclusive Spain Tours this summer.1. Go for tapas at a hole in the wall called “Los Faroles.” Peter (Spanish) is the owner and is wasted pretty much all the time. Ask for the "lomo con queso" and get melted manchego on pork filets, on a toasted piece of bread. Best ham and cheese you'll ever eat. It's on the Calle de Abenamar, a minute from the Plaza Nueva. No phone.2. Eat fondue at a place called El Aguas. The views of the Alhambra at night are breathtaking. Be sure to get a table on the patio. Cheese, meat and chocolate. Phone is 957-224-356, and reservations are a good idea. Located on Aljibe de Trillo in the Albaicin neighborhood.3. Go see a concert in the Alhambra Palace or else the Manuel de Falla concert hall. The Music and Dance Festival of...

Hotels and restaurants.

by AsturArcadia

Pay no attention to the official 'star' ratings of hotels and hostales (and remember that a 'hostal' is simply a hotel by another name). Why pay through the nose when you will find the same essential equipment in the bedroom of a one-star establishment as in that of a four-star one? Having travelled widely across Europe, I would quite honestly say that Spanish hotel bedrooms rank among the cleanest and best equipped I have come across, though standards do vary across the country, with coastal areas on the Mediterranean side usually among the worst, especially as regards the standard of bathroom plumbing (this may reflect the age of the latter). When selecting somewhere to eat, look for the place filled with locals - workmen or truckers - rather than visitors. The food may be simple, invariably it will be well-cooked. Opt for the 'menú del día' - three or four courses with bread, water,...

Re:Trip to Andalucia

by zagor123

Hi ranger49,thanx for your reply. It seems like I'm getting some really helpful informations on this forum. Next week I will be flying from Cardiff to Amsterdam where I will meet my dad. Our plan is to drive all the way through Holland, Belgium, Bordeaux, maybe visit Biarritz for a few hours and then arrive to S.Sebastian. I checked your info about www.kanpoeder.com, sounds perfect for me. I don't know much about Andalusia at all, so I guess my first destination would be Cordoba. We're staying for about 10 days and we will probably head towards Sevilla, Cadiz,Malaga, Granada, Almeria and so on. Any tip about interesting places in between will be helpful.Greetings,zagor123

Mountains

by DanielF

Spain is a very mountainous country. It is in fact the country in Europe with the second average height after Switzerland. Moreover, Madrid is the highest capital in Europe. Names like the Sierra Nevada, the Picos de Europa, the Sierra Morena are all evocative of adventure and discovery, and contain some of the last pure wilderness patches left in Western Europe (although now sieged by the so-called civilisation). This picture shows the view one has when flying over the Pyrennes in winter, a truly awe inspiring experience. This huge natural barrier spreads all along the French-Spanish border from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean Sea. Traditionally, the Pyrenees have isolated the peninsula, difficulting its exchanges with the rest of Europe. But today, like most of the other mountains areas, have become a favorite destination for people interested in active and adventurous holidays.

Rivers & Canyons

by DanielF

The management of water resources is one of the hot topics in Spain, as large parts of the country are particularly dry, while those areas are precisely where most of the intensive and water-demanding crops are located. So important are rivers in Spain, that the whole Iberian Peninsula is named after the river Ebro. That is the most regular and carries the most water of the Spanish rivers, but oddly enough, it is the only of the four larger Iberian rivers that is not shared by Spain and Portugal and it is also the only one that flows into the Mediterranean. The irregular flow of Iberian rivers and the complicated topography of the country do not allow for fluvial navigation but in the final stretches of a few major rivers. However, for those same reasons, many fluvial environments provide for some spectacular scenery. In particular, the wealth of beautiful river canyons and gorges is...
