As Melilla is free port there is no VAT nor other taxes. The city has to offer an extensive range of quality imported articles. Best sellers are electronic devices, jewelry articles, perfumes, delicatessen, liquors and tobacco. Maroccan crafts is well represented in shops located in “Barrio del Mantelete”, next to the harbour. Leather articles and ceramics are the most important.
The “mercadillos” are clean and well organised, and they are full of surprises and peculiar objects. Most important “mercadillo” is "Barrio del Real" one, although you can visit maroccan ones next to the border as “Chinese Neighbourhood” or “El Had”. There isn't a lot to buy in Melilla. There is Barber jewelry. There is also a Supersol supermarket (take the #2 bus which passes the supermarket - the bus stop is about 50 metres before and after the supermarket). It's possible that the Supersol is the largest supermarket in Melilla. It isn't too big.
I almost never buy Spanish canned squid (in a can like sardines). However, it is much cheaper that in North America. It is less than 50 euro cents per can. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
