Warning! Randy police!

Most police I'm sure are mainly well behaved and ethical. The one I ran into however seemed to think that a woman in a bar (although drunk and having fun but in the company of her boyfriend and certainly not out of control in any way) was fair game to being kissed without encouragement or permission! Sorry to disappoint you sunshine, but let's not go there!

Breakwater in Levanter storm.

The beach shown in Mcbride's photo looks very much like after a levanter storm where lots of flotsam washes in from Nador(Mcbride's home town!). In the season the beach is swept EVERY morning and any rubbish sieved from the sea by a special boat.
The photo shows the breakwater 100m from McBride's photo and displays what a levanter storm is like. The beach even in winter is cleaned very quickly after such ferocious weather.

Mellila beach on a Saturday morning

When you go out, be prepared to step in 1kg of dog *** (left by a poodle dragged by a woman caked in make up (at 7am). You will be assaulted by the smell of putrifying rubbish, spilt on the street by men looking for plastic water bottles, anything that can be sold or just somthing to eat. Car drivers (usually in Miitsibushi Satsuma,or what-ever, 4 tonne jeeps (with bull bars - in case they hit a cow whilst driving home, drunk). The `Rio del Ouro´ is a sight to behold. River of *** would be a better name as it is full of rusting fridges, bedframes and other detritus that the Spanish blame the Moroccans for dumping (even though there is a fence blocking the border where the river runs)

Get help when coming from Morocco TO Melilla

When I walked the final stretch from Beni Anzar (Morocco) to Melilla, there were a long line, actually crowd, of Moroccans trying to get across the border. I am not certain whether there is a quota or just delays for Moroccans. In any case, a kind Spanish border guard saw me (maybe concluded that I was not Moroccan) and escorted me around the crowd and directed me to the customs window.

It is possible that non-Moroccans do not have to face the same obstacles. So cut in line and see if they will allow you to pass in front.

Monday-museums are closed

1. The 3 museums in the old walled city are closed on Monday. Therefore, you may not want to take the overnight ferry on Sunday (arrive Monday) unless you want to stay in Melilla more than one day.

2. For those who dislike crowds, there are large crowds on both sides of the Melilla - Beni Enzar, Morocco border. Pickpockets sometimes like crowds but I cannot say whether pickpockets like the crowds at the frontier.

This is a picture of Faro in the old walled city.
