Cafe Central, Madrid by SirRichard A nice option to spend a pleasant evening is to meet at one of the many old cafes we have in Spain. Those are places decorated amainly with wood and nirrors where you can enjoy a drink or one of the many national and international coffee varieties. Some of them have live music, sometimes jazz or other relaxed style. Is an alternative for those who really want to chat and not only shout louder than the music in a disco! by SirRichard This old palace near the Puerta del Sol was recently opened as a disco, keeping the main structure of the house (aisles, high ceilings, wooden floors...) Before 23:00h, the entrance is free. After that hour, 9 euros (15 on weekends). On Thursdays a lot of foreign students living in Madrid meet there, so you can speak english that night. Tuesdays, salsa. Wednesdays, tango. Leave a Comment Theme: DancingAddress: c/ Arenal, 9. Metro Sol

Drinking in the streets by SirRichard In summer weather is so hot some nights that you can't stay inside the places and is much nicer to take the glass and stand outside, under the stars, much cooler. In some bars, in fact, you will find more people outside than in the bar. Nevertheless buying bottles and drinking in squares or parks (activity known as "botellon") has been forbidden in many cities. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and Drinking

At "El Abuelo" bar, Madrid by SirRichard In Spain we have very "busy" nightlife, specially in summer, when the weather helps. Our times to go out are a little different from those of the rest: As we have "late eating schedules" (lunch at 14:30, dinner at 22:00), normally the time to start going out is about 23:00-01:00. That makes the come back hour late too, obviously, so is not weird to stay awake till 4-5... or even see the sunrise. A widespread custom for those who see the sun rise is to have chocolate with churros as breakfast and go to sleep afterwards... Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Paella, often Part of Spanish Meal by deecat Madridis famous for its nightlife. I have heard those who live in Madrid often called "los gatos" [the cats] because they come out after the sun goes down, but they do take catnaps [siesta] during the day! In many parts of Spain, especially Madrid and Seville, restaurants don't even start serving dinner until nine-thirty or ten at night. The Spanish eat at a cyleisurely pace. They begin with soup, then fish or an egg dish. Next, they have the main course of meat and vegetables; finally, they have dessert. As they eat slowly, they also tell stories, gossip, joke with each other; thus, the whole meal usually stretches over about three hours.
It's after midnight when the dinner is over. But for them, the night has barely started. From the dinner, they move on to the taverns. At the taverns, they sip wine, listen to guitar music, and visit more. They sometimes don't stop until four or five in the morning. It's now time for breakfast at a sidewalk cafe. They usually have a mug of chocolate. By that time, all the businesses are about to open. They do not pause to sleep any yet rest. Instead, they set out for work! Of course, they don't spend every evening out, but they seem to require less sleep than most people. I was amazed at their stamina. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and Drinking

No sign of "Raining Men" here! by Geisha_Girl After spending an hour trying to hunt down our friends around the clubs in Chueca, Girl_KS and I found our way to this local AFTER HOURS bar called Escape. We stumbled in and immediately blended in with the "All Female Cast" that was there. Escape is a popular after hours gay club for women. It was still a bit early (1am) and the place wasn't jam packed as it usually gets.......but we still had fun dancing onstage with the lively crowd! After 30 minutes of non-stop dancing, us ladies had to "escape" on to the next club!

Shoulder to shoulder crowds at Why Not by Geisha_Girl Nightlife in Madrid seems to center on 3 major districts: Chueca (Madrid's version of San Francisco's "Castro" District, Calle Huertas (traditional Spanish music bars), and around Plaza del Dos de Mayo in the Malasana district. For the 4 nights we stayed in Madrid, it seems we always found our way back to Chueca. Probably because it was just a few steps away from our lovely apartment! My first "taste" of Madrid nightlife was spent at WHY NOT. A local bar (tiny bar) which seems to pack in a crowd. Even on a Sunday night! Typically known to be frequented by the gay & lesbian crowd.......bring your own partner and you'll still have a great time! The DJ played old school R & B music the night we were there. Claustrophobic but lots of fun! Lively crowd, lively music.........and excellent company!!!

My "One Night Stand" with GREATNESS! by Geisha_Girl We noticed that the Madrilenos tend not to make one plan for the evening....but more like 3 or 4! Nightlife in Madrid seemed endless. Madrid swings like no other city in Europe (other than Ibiza of course!) Madrilenos pride themselves on how much they can party and how late they can go ...... when they sleep is anyone's guess!! The night begins and ends late. Very LATE! So we asked around for the swankiest dance club in Madrid. Everyone suggested SERRANO 41 was the place to see and be seen! An upscale dance club located in the very upscale Goya district of Madrid. We arrived quite late (and quite tipsy!) in typical Spanish style........and enjoyed the cool, hip , well-dressed crowds, and the mix of Euro-House and Spanish Salsa sounds. An unforgettable evening indeed. Here at Serrano 41 I met the man of my *SURREAL* dreams. There he was.....up against the wall. Our eyes met immediately as I saw him from across the room. It seemed he couldn't take his eyes off of me. So I had to make my move. I couldn't believe I was face to face with such greatness. Those piercing dark Spanish eyes.......that signature moustache........the smooth skin. He never said a word. He didn't have to. I understood him completely. As I gently stroked his smooth cheeks and whispered gentle words into his ears, I knew it couldn't last. His lips felt too cold.....was it just me? He never said a word to me. I could only hope that our short time together left an impact on him. He seemed......larger than life. And me, just a simple "wall flower." Somebody get that girl another round of caipirinhas!

You can never prepare yourself for this stuff by Geisha_Girl Are you Ready? Here's what you gotta ask yourself: Does dancing in the blazing Mediterranean sun at high noon in a cotton-candy-pink wig, vinyl chaps and melting body paint sound appealing? Is a sleepless week filled with pounding house music and disco “foam rooms” your idea of a getaway? Do you like the idea of spending an intimate evening under swaying palms with a crowd of 5,000, sweating to the sounds spun by DJ Paul Van Dyk? If you answered YES to any of the above, you may be ready to join the estimated 1.5 million visitors who flock to the Spanish island of Ibiza each year between June and September to hit all-night dance clubs and get roasted at booming beach parties. Prior to our arrival.......we had heard the legends, the stories and would say to ourselves, "Are you serious? Naaaaaaaah, that cannot be." We thought we were prepared for anything and everything that this notorious party pleasure island had to offer.........we had dress rehearsals in Madrid and Majorca prior to arriving. Alas, nothing could have prepared us for the extravagance of Ibiza! Whether it's the sounds of commercial house music, the hypnotic draw of progressive trance, or the frenetic beat of two-step garage, the soul of the island is in its music. It was an international crowd that frequents the scene, and we were determined to keep up! We are believers now. We have seen the depths that Ibiza can take us.............and we left the island with a touch of Amnesia, seduced by Pacha, a slight Irish jig in our walk, and hoping the music never stops beating in our hearts. Starting at midnight... by Beach_dog Nightlife in Spain generally starts late, and finishes early, early the following morning that is. One thing about Spanish people is, they certainly know how to enjoy themselves. . Evening start with a late meal, followed by drinking in bars and disco's, or you just go straight out. Normally a night on the town would begin after 11 Pm and often not until 1 AM, thats when the bars start to get lively and the disco's crowded. The revelry often normally goes on into the early hours of the morning, and frequently until daylight. Its normal to stop on your way home at one of the Churraterias, which are just opening, for a breakfast of Churros con chocolate. . Vivir sin Dormir... could be a Spanish motto.
