IBIZAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

by Geisha_Girl

Are you Ready? Here's what you gotta ask yourself:Does dancing in the blazing Mediterranean sun at high noon in a cotton-candy-pink wig, vinyl chaps and melting body paint sound appealing? Is a sleepless week filled with pounding house music and disco “foam rooms” your idea of a getaway? Do you like the idea of spending an intimate evening under swaying palms with a crowd of 5,000, sweating to the sounds spun by DJ Paul Van Dyk? If you answered YES to any of the above, you may be ready to join the estimated 1.5 million visitors who flock to the Spanish island of Ibiza each year between June and September to hit all-night dance clubs and get roasted at booming beach parties.Prior to our arrival.......we had heard the legends, the stories and would say to ourselves, "Are you serious? Naaaaaaaah, that cannot be."We thought we were prepared for anything and everything that this notorious...

ESCAPE - Madrid: Where are the men???

by Geisha_Girl

After spending an hour trying to hunt down our friends around the clubs in Chueca, Girl_KS and I found our way to this local AFTER HOURS bar called Escape. We stumbled in and immediately blended in with the "All Female Cast" that was there.Escape is a popular after hours gay club for women. It was still a bit early (1am) and the place wasn't jam packed as it usually gets.......but we still had fun dancing onstage with the lively crowd! After 30 minutes of non-stop dancing, us ladies had to "escape" on to the next club! Casual atmosphere

Why Not? - Madrid: Chueca! Chueca! Chueca!

by Geisha_Girl

Nightlife in Madrid seems to center on 3 major districts: Chueca (Madrid's version of San Francisco's "Castro" District, Calle Huertas (traditional Spanish music bars), and around Plaza del Dos de Mayo in the Malasana district. For the 4 nights we stayed in Madrid, it seems we always found our way back to Chueca. Probably because it was just a few steps away from our lovely apartment! My first "taste" of Madrid nightlife was spent at WHY NOT. A local bar (tiny bar) which seems to pack in a crowd. Even on a Sunday night!Typically known to be frequented by the gay & lesbian crowd.......bring your own partner and you'll still have a great time! The DJ played old school R & B music the night we were there.Claustrophobic but lots of fun!Lively crowd, lively music.........and excellent company!!! Casual atmosphere

Serrano 41 - Madrid: The One Night Stand

by Geisha_Girl

We noticed that the Madrilenos tend not to make one plan for the evening....but more like 3 or 4! Nightlife in Madrid seemed endless.Madrid swings like no other city in Europe (other than Ibiza of course!) Madrilenos pride themselves on how much they can party and how late they can go ...... when they sleep is anyone's guess!!The night begins and ends late. Very LATE!So we asked around for the swankiest dance club in Madrid. Everyone suggested SERRANO 41 was the place to see and be seen!An upscale dance club located in the very upscale Goya district of Madrid. We arrived quite late (and quite tipsy!) in typical Spanish style........and enjoyed the cool, hip , well-dressed crowds, and the mix of Euro-House and Spanish Salsa sounds. An unforgettable evening indeed. Here at Serrano 41 I met the man of my *SURREAL* dreams. There he was.....up against the wall. Our eyes met immediately as I saw...

Drinking out

by SirRichard

In summer weather is so hot some nights that you can't stay inside the places and is much nicer to take the glass and stand outside, under the stars, much cooler. In some bars, in fact, you will find more people outside than in the bar.Nevertheless buying bottles and drinking in squares or parks (activity known as "botellon") has been forbidden in many cities.

Nightlife peculiarities

by SirRichard

In Spain we have very "busy" nightlife, specially in summer, when the weather helps. Our times to go out are a little different from those of the rest:As we have "late eating schedules" (lunch at 14:30, dinner at 22:00), normally the time to start going out is about 23:00-01:00. That makes the come back hour late too, obviously, so is not weird to stay awake till 4-5... or even see the sunrise.A widespread custom for those who see the sun rise is to have chocolate with churros as breakfast and go to sleep afterwards...

Various: Vivir sin Dormir (Live without sleep)

by Beach_dog

Nightlife in Spain generally starts late, and finishes early, early the following morning that is. One thing about Spanish people is, they certainly know how to enjoy themselves..Evening start with a late meal, followed by drinking in bars and disco's, or you just go straight out. Normally a night on the town would begin after 11 Pm and often not until 1 AM, thats when the bars start to get lively and the disco's crowded. The revelry often normally goes on into the early hours of the morning, and frequently until daylight. Its normal to stop on your way home at one of the Churraterias, which are just opening, for a breakfast of Churros con chocolate..Vivir sin Dormir... could be a Spanish motto.

Dancing Sardana under spanish skies: Vamos a la Rambla!!

by M.S.FOGG

In every little town where there´s a Rambla - it´s usually a walk in the middle of a street, with trees. 11 p.m. most of the people have ate their dinner and come out to the Rambla where the people meet at this time. There are young and old and sometimes (on weekends or maybe Easter) there are bands who play Sardana, a spanish (or catalan) folk-dance, everybody, not just the old people. It´s a very nice and warm atmosphere, because you can get together with the locals, talk to them, maybe later go to a bar with some, or just enjoy their open-minded way of living.Attention: The spanish are a very lazy and slow going nation, so don´t expect people on the streets before half past ten in the evening.

Various: Go see a flamenco show!

by acemj

You can see flamenco in most Spanish cities, but it is best seen in Sevilla. In fact, if your are in southern Spain, I would say that seeing a flamenco show is a must see! Check out my Sevilla page for details.

Various: Nightlights & Great Sights

by acemj

All throughout Spain, one of the best things to do is just stroll around the historic parts of cities and enjoy the well-lighted monuments and cathedrals. There are also exceptional nightclubs and, of course, great tapas bars that stay open well into the night.
