Cathedral, Ciudad Rodrigo by Paul2001 If traveliing through the Northwst part of Spain a stop in Ciudad Rodgiro is worthwhiled. The completely walled town has a fine old town with an interesting cathedral. There are several fine restaurants which make Ciudad Rodgiro good place to stop for half of day and eat lunch. Especially if you are driving from Spain into Portugal. Leave a Comment

by latmedia Not many people venture to the northern regions of Spain, but if you get a chance, check out La Coruna, en Galicia. La Coruna is a sleepy fishing city, whose houses facing the sea are called Casas de Vidrio. You cant tell from this picture, but the glass portions are framed with blue and green trip, making them quite unique and beautiful Leave a Comment

Caceres by Paul2001 Not so many tourists seem to visit the Extramadura and its great old towns. This is a shame because towns like Caceres are a delight and are well worth a visit especially if you are on your way to Seville from Madrid. The Extramadura is just out of the way on this route. The old walled town of Caceres consists of many old medieval and Renaissance palaces and churches. Not all of the churches are open for inspection but try you luck. The old town itself is so well preserved that it is often used by Hollywood for films set in medieval towns. As I have said few foriegn tourist travel to Caceres. This is not the case for the Spanish. I arrived in Caceres at about noon on a Saturday and most of the hotels were booked up already. I found a vacancy on my third try and it was booked up by 5pm. So arrive early if you are visiting on a weekend or book ahead. Caceres is about 310 kilometers southwest of Madrid. If driving through Spain it is very easy to swing by this way if you already on your way to Caceres. It is well worth the effort if you want a taste of old Spain. Leave a Comment

by traveldave The Casa de Campo is an enormous park west of downtown Madrid. The park offers numerous outdoor activities for Madrileņos, including an amusement park, a swimming pool, and a zoo. Trails that snake through the trees and hills provide hiking, biking, jogging, and birdwatching opportunities as well. Traces of Civil War trenches from the three-year siege of Madrid can also be seen among the pine-clad hills. Leave a Comment

Classic valley by iandsmith This valley is unique. Encircled by mountains it has its own species of butterfly found nowhere else. If you're in to mountain scenery or geology, it's definitely worth a look. If you're into skiing you've probably already been there! I remember vividly looking at a classic U-shaped valley scoured by glaciers in the last ice age and thinking how wonderful it would be to wander down there - if only time had permitted. Set in the Pyrenees, you'll probably be going through a tunnel to get there though the way we went out featured wonderful scenery, albeit on a slow windy road with frequent stops for cows. Wilderness by iandsmith Whether you're hiking, biking or just cruising, I can recommend doing what I did. Just grab a map and zig-zag through the Pyrenees at your leisure. Twisting up from France through the cultivated fields then suddenly encountering nothing but forest for kilometre after kilometre on little-trafficked roads before returning to civilization on the lower slopes in Spain. Then, turning into the mountains again and working your way through limestone tunnels, past cows, above rushing snow-fed streams, catching glimpses of greater peaks beyond and all backdropped by autumn colours. I loved it. Leave a Comment

With Japanese classmates on the Seville Feria. by Joyce_HK One way to know more about Spanish, and those who admire Spanish culture, is to attend local schools of flamenco dance or Spanish language. Courses of various length, from 1 week to several months, are offered by numerous schools in Madrid, Granada and Sevilla. Refer to my Sevilla page for information of the flamenco school I attended. Here you can enjoy a long show with some actors playing a lot of characters; the princess, the king, the writer etc. The show takes about two hours. You can enjoy it only during the weekends; in the morning or afternoon. Cuellar lies at 60 north of Segovia. Leave a Comment Phone: 921 142 203

Cannons along the walls of Ciudad Rodrigo by Paul2001 Ciudad Rodrigo has one of the best preserved walls in all of Spain. When you explore them you should make a historical note that this was the location of a major siege during the Peninsular War. Ciudad Rodrigo was then occupied by the French and was besieged by the Duke of Wellington's British and Allied forces. The walls were scaled by storm at approximately the location that you see here. The walls have been sinced restored and you can walk along much if not all the them. Leave a Comment
