Antequera

by ellsasha

Set in the midst of one of Andalucia's most fertile areas producing asparagus and olives, the first sighting of Antequera as I approached by bus from Malaga was of an industrialized small town in the valley, but once through the industrial area I discovered the most charming medieval town. The town has been inhabited since prehistoric times and although tourism is making small advances there are still few tourists there and this is the ideal time to go. The old part of the town is truly beautiful. This town has an incredible array of churches, make certain to go to the highest point in the town to pass through the Arco de los Gigantes, dated 1585, to see the Royal College Church. I had lunch at the bar restaurant which is on the corner directly across from the church and sat at one of the tables in the small plaza outside, the food and service were excellent and the view of the sierra...

Monkeying Around - The Barbary Apes

by 807Wheaton

These apes are really quite tame and come right up to the tourists who have treats for them. These apes are a tail-less breed of monkey. When their number dimished during WWII Winston Churchill made provision for at least 24 apes to be maintained on Gibraltar. The legend is that if the apes leave Gibraltar the British too will leave - so feed the apes!We also went into the Cave of St. Michael. Open now for visitors, the theater holds concerts, ballet and drama. The upper Chamber is where you can see the stalactites and stalagmites. The entire cave is well lit and very cool on a hot day.

A wonderful gate to Spain and Andorra

by yobotourist

When I went from France to Andorra, I decided to take the route via Spain. The route between Puigcerda and La Seu (N 260) is a wonderful gate to Spain and for me to Andorra. I give you the advice to make a stop in the village of Bellver de Cerdanya. From the small church you have a wondeful view over the valley and the mountains. I really enjoyed that moment here.

Torre de la Calahorra in Cordoba

by Paul2001

The Torre de la Calahorra, located on the south bank of the Guadalquivir River, was probably the most pleasant surprise of all Cordoba's attractions. I had never even heard of it before traveling to Granada and visited it as an afterthought. The tower was built in 1364 and it guarded the Roman bridge from it's southern flank. Today the Torre de la Calahorra houses a very fine museum, the Museo Vivo de Al-Andal?s, which is dedicated to the fascinating history of Cordoba and Andalusia. To proceed through the museum you should pick up the headset that give you an audio document of each exhibit. There are many good models of such famed Andalusia monuments as the Alhambra and the Mesquita. There is also an excellent display of Arab musical instruments. Probably the most interesting room has wax figures of Cordoba's great medieval philosophers. Each gives you narrates an outline of their...

WHY NOT VISIT MOROCCO?

by LoriPori

Hans and I thought it would be fun and an experience to take a ferry and go on a tour of Tangiers in MOROCCO. We booked our tour with Jasmine Travel and for 43.00 Euros each they picked us up by bus and brought us to Algeciras where we boarded EuroFerrys to Tangiers. We were met by our guide for the day and we went by bus for a tour of the city, then a walk through the city. We later had a typical lunch consisting of soup, couscous and dessert. While we ate we were entertained by local musicians and a belly dancer (who indeed had a belly). We also had a tour of a carpet store and warehouse and a spice demonstration. Before we returned we also got a chance to get on a camel and take pictures. All in all we had a great time. Be prepared for a long day. We were picked up at 5:30a.m. and got back to our hotel around 8:30p.m.

Tarifa

by AndreSTGT

Mainland Spain's southern-most town is not only the starting point for trips to Morocco, it's also a worthwhile destination in itself. It's a very windy and 'unspanish' place with an almost North-African looking Old Town. From the impressive fortress you can see the shores of Morocco. The beaches close to Tarifa are gorgeous! Long stretches of white sand, pristine and barely developed.

Xunqueira de Ambia

by bijo69

My last day on the camino was a short 15km walk to Xunqueira de Ambia. The villages has a beautiful romanesque church and cloister, both from the 12th century. After a lazy afternoon in the sun it was time to say goodbye to Rob & Steve. As it was a Sunday there was no public transport and I had to take a taxi to the train station in Ourense (20EUR).

The next day we had just a short trek of 20km to accomplish. Good for me as my feet were really hurting by now...wrong shoes, wrong socks, I know. The refugio there was fine aswell, as were the bars in town.Meet up with Rob's friend there who was joining him until Santiago.
