pack light. laundry is difficult to do in europe and laundramats in spain are all but non-existant. pack light and expect to wash your clothes in the sink. you can get it all there. don't take anything, except, i found contact lens solution (the 3 in one kind) difficult (but not impossible) to find. film there is better and cheaper. definitely sunscreen, it's rather expensive in spain.

Eaglecreek Switchback: switches between roller bag and backpack easily; can be used as carryon Good walking shoes; a couple of pairs at least; cardigan for nights and cathedrals EARPLUGS! All our rooms had street-facing balconies. Earplugs saved us! Bandaids, individually wrapped handy wipes, peptobismal, eyemask for sleeping on planes and trains, Shout wipes for wine stains, sunscreen polarizing filter good for Mediterranean, warming filter good for southern Spanish palaces. Pack light so you can move easily. Bring a purse or bag that goes over your shoulder. Be alert. Don't let your bags or luggage distract you! Leave the jewelry at home.

Any size to get your gear into and easy to carry. I always try to wear what the Spanish tend to wear , that way you go more unnoticed , and look less like a tourist , avoiding yourself being singled out by pickpockets or those pain in the ass timeshare dudes.I like to shop for clothes when abroad , that way you buy what the locals wear , treat yourself while on holiday and come back home with different gear than joe bloggs at home and have some keepsake memories of your holiday. The main thing I always get is a good hat which keeps the sun out of my eyes , I have a pair of Lacoste shades but find my eyes adapt to the sun better when wearing a hat. Japps health salts go with me wherever I travel to keep the stomach digesting anything new to me and I find it cures the hangovers quickest. Take batteries from the UK with you , as for photography in Spain , you can't take a bad picture...

Be prepared to leave space for the things you'll by while there. I had to buy a larger suitcase and back pack just to get everything home! I defeniently recommend anything with wheels. It helps. also, camping backpacks are great when traveling. They fit a lot of stuff and it is easier to carry it on your back. Take lots of comfortable shoes! Also be aware of what the whether will be like when you are there. If you don't need big bulky clothes, don't take them. I wasn't sure what wheather would be like and way over packed. Make sure to make medicine with you if you are lactose intolerant. We had issues finding stuff for that. Be prepared and take plenty of film and batteries. It is more expensive over there. I highly recommend taking a portable cd player for the trip. It is great to have something to listen to while traveling. It is also nice for the times you are feeling home sick...

Hiking ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to anyone traveling in Spain in the summer is a water bottle. Especially for the Mediterranean coast, the heat and humidity are murder. During a leisurely walk in Barcelona, I found myself needing water every few blocks and exhausted by the end of it. There are enough fountains to refill it, and making use of them will save you a great deal of money on fluids.

Light and practical. The weather is generally very warm and comfortable. Light clothing and good shoes for the day and don't forget a swim suit! Bring a sweater for the evenings which can become surprisingly cold. Sun lotion is an essential and mosquito repellent is also a must. Lots of good photographic spots, a camera is an essential.

Even though people often go to Spain to lay on the beach and get tanned, you should remember that it's not summer all the time - not even in Spain. If you go to city, people will notice right away that you're a tourist, if you're wearing sandals or shorts, they are only used on the beach.
