Los Arcos Things to Do

  • some remains of the medieval townwall

This gate is a remain of the medieval townwall of Los Arcos. In my last picture you can see the old bridge that might also date back to the medieval times, you will find it opposite of the church and it is used for the main road to Torres del Rio.

  • another interesting building

This is another interesting building that I found while taking a walk through Los Arcos. Los Arcos looks like a larger town, although it has just 1200 inhabitants and the village dates back to the 11th century.

  • A baroque palace & more

Los Arcos is full of interesting buildings, but one of my favorite was this baroque palace, next to Portal del Castilla.Something else that I liked very much about Los Arcos are the arcades that you will find in some streets, easy for shopping while it is raining and also as a peregrino / pilgrim you are always happy to find a dry place on a rainy...

  • The cloisters of Santa Maria

Dont miss to take a look through the window in the backside of the church of Santa Maria, where you can take a look into the cloisters of the former monastery next to the church. It is a pity that these cloisters are not open to the public, but at least you can see a bit of its beauty through the windows !

  • Portal de Castilla

Portal de Castilla is the entrance-gate to Plaza Mayor, the main square of Los Arcos, where you will find various cafes and also the church Santa Maria. On the gate you will find the Coat of Arms of Phillp V.

  • The organ of Iglesia Santa Maria

The organ of Iglesia Santa Maria was my favorite part of the church, because it is painted in a funny way - just take a look at my main picture, where faces are painted on some of the pipes. When you take the steps up to the chorus you can take a closer look at the organ and you will also see some great woodcarvings up there and a precious old book...

This restaurant is open between 01.00 and 10.00pm, that is quite unique in Spain and along the Camino and they offer a "Menu del Peregrino" for just 11,- euros, half a litre of red wine and water included.

Favorite Dish: I had scallops as a 1st course, the a perch as a second course and some icecream as desert. All over the restaurant you will find some exhibits about the Camino and there is also 1 table with a great view of the church.

Watching out for fancy, ancient doors & door-knockers is one of my hobbies and along the Camino you will see a lot of interesting local architecture that way.
Something else that I found quite interesting in these villages along the Camino are the coat of arms, that are shown on the facades of many buildings, like shown in my 2nd picture here.
