Here you will see some more of the great local architecture, that you will see, while walking the Camino through Obanos.
My 3rd picture: an old window that I found next to the famous gate
my last 2 pics: a house-entrance with an interesting gate with the coat of arms on top of it.

There are some great buildings on the Plaza de los Fueros and except of a few local cars the place will also be totally car-free. In the centre of the square you will also find an interesting, modern cross - see it in 3 of my pictures here.

The church of San Juan is a lot younger than it looks: it was built in 1911 in Neo-gothic style, but unfortunately it was locked when I passed by so I could see it only from outside.
I think it makes sense anyway to take a closer look into the arcades next to the church, there is a nice gate and some great ornaments. The aracdes are also a good place to relax a bit for the pilgrims on a rainy day.

Obanos is one of the better known villages along the Camino, partly because 2 different ways of the Camino meet there, partly certainly also because there is that beautiful medieval towngate that you have to walk through.
You will find several shops there, albergues and hostals and the Camino is marked by steel-shells in the road like shown here in my main picture.
I was walking to Obanos at the end of April 2012. April and May are the best months to hike in that area, because it is not yet so very hot and most pilgrims will walk there between July and October and so it will be hard to find a place to sleep then.

From Obanos it is still 707 km to Santiago de Compostela !

This is a building that is used for a local sport thats name I have forgotten, maybe somebody here on VT knows what kind of a sport is played there.
What I found interesting is the fact that many such sports-halls are to be found in that area and most of them seem to have used old parts of the medieval townwalls as a part of the stadion, at least it looks that way.
