During the San Fermin Festival the bus companies add whatever number of buses they need in order to accomodate the people coming from local towns and communities. Many people stay in San Sebastian and then bus over to Pamplona. The fare in 2011 was 7.10 euro. The buses are very comfortable. It takes about an hour from bus station to bus station.

This little train ran from the carnival back up the hill towards the main town where the bull run is. Its free and you can pick it up right at the entrance to the carnival at the end, near the bridge. its a lot better than walking back up that steep hill.

Bilbao to Pamplona by Bus
The bus from Bilbao to Pamplona takes just 1hr 30mins and costs about 20 euros. From Bilbao airport there is a shuttle bus every 30 minutes to the main bus station in the center of Bilbao.
There you can catch the bus to Pamplona. The company that has the Bilbao- Pamplona route is www.laburundesa.com.
Bilbao has three railway stations, operated by three different companies:
Abando Station, Concordia Station and Atxuri Station.

Spain's national railway company, Renfe operates trains from Abando Station, which connects with Abando underground station and Bilbao's tramway to Pamplona.
However , there is no direct train from Bilbao to Pamplona...you have to go via CASTEJON DE EBRO oor TUDELA DE NAVARRA. The return journey costs 40-50 GBP (2010 prices).
Renfe.es, is Spain's official rail website but tickets cannot be booked online. Foreigner travellers should not use Renfe's site but use Rail Europe instead to have their tickets delivered to their home address. So you have to book at least 7 days in advance

The distance between Bilbao, Spain and Pamplona is about 160 kilometres. Or 100 miles. It takes around two hours, plus or minus a half hour to get there by car. Dont forget to drive on the right!
Speed limits are 120kph (74mph) on motorways, 100kph (62mph) on dual carriageways, 90kph (56mph) on roads outside built-up areas and 50kph (31mph) within towns, unless otherwise stated. A valid driving licence and third-party insurance are required to drive in Spain. National licences from EU countries are accepted, although drivers are advised to obtain an International Driving Permit. A Green Card is strongly recommended for all visitors and is compulsory for those from outside the EU.
You can also travel by the train from Bilboa.

The City has buses that run all night long from all areas of Pamplona to the City Center where the main festivities are happening. It runs about one euro per bus ride. The bus also goes back and forth to the airport and it is still only 1 euro.

Helpfulness
If arriving by train, there are just a few taxi's that run from the train station to the city center. So when a full train arrives and lets off a load of festival go'ers it can take a while to get through the line. If you are in a rush, get out to the front of the station and be one of the first in lines. Aout 5 euros.
If by air, it was easy to get a taxi from the airport to city center. about 15 euro.
