Adriatico: Yummiest Pizza in Fuengirola!

by Birgie

I was sick of so-so pizza and determined to find a good pizza restaurant where my daughter and I could eat a pie and watch the Spain vs. Italy Europe Cup match. We spent two hours walking around checking out Italian and Pizza restaurants until I saw this one with the wood burning oven and since I know a little about making pizza I could just tell this one was the one! We really wanted a seat on the terrace outside but it was packed with people watching the soccer game but the restaurant manager and waitress were so friendly and detemined to have our business so they prepared a cozy spot by the bar and kitchen (where we could watch all the pizzas being made) and near the television where the staff when not busy watched the game. I enjoyed very much being in the center of the action and chit chatting with the staff - problem was, I had on an "España" shirt and they were all Italians!!! But...

Fiordipanna Helado Artesanal: Major Ice Cream Splurge in Fuengirola

by Birgie

My daughter is a serious connoisseur of ice cream so when we were looking for ice cream we checked out at least ten other places and finally selected this one with a gut instinct it would be good. It was also among the most reasonably priced, about 4 euros for a ice cream sundae, 3 scoops of any of their unique flavors and the accoutrements (like "mounted cream"?...hmmmm) nuts, sprinkles, cookies, etc. and other pretty details (we got handpainted butterflies made with feathers stuck in ours). Plus the service was very good. I mention that because good service and attention to details and care put into the food preparation does not seem to be the forte of restauranteurs in Costa del Sol at least, so it's worth mentioning that this place did it right! Isabel had the "Picasso", which was a dish shaped like a painter's palette with 3 choices of ice cream, "mounted cream" (I giggle everytime...

El Cachón: Good food at a good price

by Birgie

We lucked out finding this small local bar restaurante in Zahara de los Atunes. I had seen it driving by and saw they had a "menu del dia" for 8 euros on a sign outside and I was encouraged even further when a group of Spanish, looked like local folks passing by me outside as they exited the restaurante said "Se puede comer muy bien aqui" (One can eat very well here) or something like that. The restaurant was clean, decorated in a modern style, looked like a family run establishment. The service was very good, the owner friendly and we got a very good meal for a good price. They served us a huge mixed salad and then we had a choice of a first and second course. I had sopa de lentejas, a hearty lentil soup with sausage and potato, vegetables for my first course, there was fresh bread, a drink and dessert included in the price too. For my second course I had meatballs in tomato sauce and...

Restaurants and Cafeterias: Menu del Dia

by DanielF

An affordable solution for lunch in Spain is the so-called menú del día (menu of the day) offered by many simple restaurants and cafeterias from Monday to Friday between 1 pm and 4 pm. This set lunch consists of an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert or coffee. You have usually a wide choice of dishes for each course and the prize is usually reasonably, starting from 9 euros up to 25, according to the category of the place. Bread and drinks (water, wine or beer) are included in the menu. The options for the day are usually written on a board at the entrance or inside the restaurant.

Regine: Sidewalk cafe on the Rambla Nova in Tarragona

by JREllison

Plesant atmosphere on Tarragona's Nova Rambla. We had walked from the Old City Walls to the The Roman Amphitheater then started down the Nova Rambla discovered the Cafe Regine. The canvas pravillion protected us from the wind and provided shade. The service was pleasant (even though they were not used to American English) and the food simple, but very good.

La Herradura restaurants

Chris, The only restaurant I've found that's up on Punte de Mona is Las Terrazas. It looks like it overlooks the bay. Two others are La Tartana and Il Gabbiano, but they look like they're back up in an urbanization away from the bay. I'm going to look and see if I can't find the book Driving Over Lemons. It sounds like good reading. I've found four restaurants at the marina: El Barco, Atmosphera, La Jacaranda and Marina Playa. I've heard they are all kind of expensive, but I'm sure we'll get over there at some point. With the way the dollar to Euro is right now, just about everything is going to be expensive. We may be eatting at the villa quite a bit. We're anxious to try lots of tapas and seafood, so I'm sure we'll hit lots of the chirrangos (I'm sure I spelled that wrong - beach restaurant/bars).

El Refugi: A great place for local food.

by spokensprocket

great variety of local dishes, lots of locals eat here, a nice ambience and a very enthusiastic owner who even speaks good English! It was packed by 9 PM on a rainy mid week night in March!A little hard to find - just a menu on the wall by a door up a side street north of the town's square. We had meatballs in soup - delicious, then toast and garlic - Catalunya style. I had a Salmon salad which was just right, but having a sneaky look around the other diners I can say that all of the dishes looked good and everyone was enjoying the food.

FruitLover's Open-Air Restaurant: (North) Spanish cuisine is not for vegetarians

by FruitLover

Meat (=carne) is everywhere, anytime in Spain. The only chance for a vegetarian to survive (with one exception - Barcelona which offers MANY vegetarian restaurants) is DO IT YOURSELF method, to buy in a supermercado his food's products. In the pic you see a typical meal I had, which included:GarbanzosLentejasAlubiasPatataTomatoPepinoAvocadoOlivesPomeloAlmendras (Almonds)Higos (Figs)

Granero, not a restaurant: Almendra (Almonds) de cultivo biol'ogico

by FruitLover

Highly recommended!!A product of Ecologique Agriculture - Agricultura Ecolo'gicaNo contiene conservantes ni colorantes.A ray of hope, indeed.Found it in a supermarket in Andorra. I'm sure it, and alike, can be found in many big cities, in specializing stores, or sections in big stores. The company is located in Madrid.

Maria Cristina Hotel: Greatest Hotel Breakfast Buffet on the Planet

by loumarvin

In some ways I couldn't engage in enough hyperbole to give you the proper sense of how amazing and unique this spread is. But, damn, it has everything. Basque-influenced tapas, an amazing collection of cold cuts and cheeses, a vast array of artfully sliced fresh fruit, beautiful lox and real american style donuts. And the coffee's amazing. Only accept the "con leche" offer, regardless of your penchant for a bitter cup. Lox, manchego and bocadillo.
