Gypsie Markets in Spain

by galaxyrain

Gypsie markets are so much fun to go to and you don't have to spend a lot to enjoy them. Most of them offer hand-crafted items such as feria dresses, shoes, shaws, jewelry, and souvenirs. You can also usually shop for olives, cheeses, nuts, wines and fish. On average, there are around 15 to 25 dealers or tents to shop through. I definately recommend going to one if you are in Spain. I would buy anything from clay dolls to random hand crafted souvenirs. The wine is excellent, as well as the cheeses. You can work the price, because usually nothing is set in stone and you can bargain with the dealer.

Fleamarkets

by SirRichard

There are several flea markets all over Spain, but maybe the most famous is "El Rastro", in Madrid. It is held on sunday mornings in Madrid, around the "Ribera de Curtidores" street (Metro La latina, Puerta de Toledo or Anton Martin). Here you can find second hand things, furniture, clothes, books, records, souvenirs... and many many people... take care of your stuff, many pickpockets around too!!

Pharmacy: Helth Matters

by annemariebyrne

Annie,Make sure you have a valid European Health Card (previously known as the E111 card) before you go, it entitles you to free emergency medical treatment in the public health system of all 27 EU countries.Spanish hospitals are generally of a very high standard and most will have staff who speak English, especially in busy tourist areas like the Costa del Sol, etc.Pharmacies are usually very efficient and helpful too.Drugs are much cheaper in Spain than in Ireland, not sure about the UK, but you might want to bring along prescriptions for any medications that you use regularly and stock up while you are there.Hope this helps, Anne Marie

Heron Outlets, Meridiana: Shopping at Heron City, Barcelona

by hopang

This is a major shopping centre at Heron City which is only 10 minutes away from Central Barcelona by subway. Wide range of shops and restaurants are available at the shopping centre such as clothings, shoes, stationery, jewelleries, watches, optical shops, souvenirs shops, department stores, branded stores etc. Clothings such as t-shirts can be recommended. Prices are generally cheaper than those of the outlets in Central Barcelona.

Wet Market: Shopping at Las Ramblas in Barcelona

by hopang

Approximately halfway down the street of Las Ramblas in Central Barcelona from Placa Catalunya, a wet market is located on the right side of the tree-lined street. A wide variety of wet consumer goods are available in the market such as fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh meats such as chickens, beefs, porks and muttons. The wet market may be tempting to some local and foreign tourists. For those who are thirsty especially after a long walk during the hot summer months of July and August, mouth-watering fresh fruit juices and iced cold fresh fruits may sound attractive! Mouth-watering fresh fruit juices and cut fresh fruits look attractive.

Zara and others: Fast Fashion in Spain

by DanielF

Fashion design in Spain has, for many years, been considered too lackluster to play in the same level as Paris, Milan or even London. Moreover, many of its most prominent designers, such as Balenciaga, have developed their career in the fashion meccas rather in their home country. At the grand brand level, Spanish fashion has not taken gigantic steps yet, but the country has indeed achieved a global presence during the last decades in High Street Fashion. Zara, in particular, but also Mango, Bershka, Camper and many others have managed to offer a catwalk inspired fashion for very affordable prices, with a reasonable quality and within weeks since the trends are revealed in the most glamourous fashion shows. Inditex, the corporation which owns most of these fast-fashion chains, based in Galicia, is owned by a self-made man who started with a small atelier in his own home and has become...

Traditional market halls

by DanielF

In spite of the ever growing success of pre-cooked deep-frozen foods, the average Spaniard still knows how and what to buy in the market; and how to cook at home on an everyday basis. Indeed, buying in traditional market halls is still a daily task for many Spaniards. Prices are not the lowest, but the high quality and the personalised service still provide a good value for money.Food matters are taken seriously by Spaniards and, for that reason, it is not odd that most of the local market halls are located in historical buildings in prominent places of the city. They are usually amazing pieces of architecture where the food items are carefully and colourfully displayed, so even if one does not need to buy any food, a visit to Some of the best known market halls in Spain, like the Boqueria in Barcelona or the Mercat Central in Valencia will still be rewarding. If you do decide to buy...
