Granada - Bazaar

by ant1606

In the old city of Granada there's a colorful "souk" area where people cram through the narrow alleys full of sounds and merchandise. Traders speak a sort of Arabic dialect among themselves but use Spanish with customers, promoting the sale of average quality stuff at average price.

SHOPS IN THE COSTA DEL SOL: SHOPPING IN SPAIN

by LoriPori

Popular buys include leather goods ( shoes, handbags, belts, etc. ), ceramic pottery, LLadro porcelain figurines, Damascus jewellery, embroidered shawls, lace and Toledo Gold. The numerous excellent sherries and wines produced in Spain also make good souvenirs. Goods sold in Spain include a VAT in the selling price. Travellers to Spain are entitled to a reimbursement of the 16% VAT tax they pay on all purchases as long as these add up to no less that EURO 90.15. When shopping look for the Europe Tax-free Shopping logo. Ask the shop assistant for a Tax-free Shopping Cheque which is your claim for the tax refund. Make sure customs authorities stamp your cheque as without the customs stamp, the cheques are not valid for refund.

Artesania La Escalerilla: Shopping in Mijas

by LoriPori

This Charming little shop ARTESANIA LA ESCALERILLA was fun to browse around in as it had many local craft items and brightly painted pottery which I love. Note the charming way they display their colourful wares on the outside of the shop, as pictured here. It was enough to entice me into their shop. Leather goods, Hand-crafted pottery

A typical street shop: Shopping in Granada

by LoriPori

It was quite a hoot to navigate the narrow streets of Granada and experience the sights , sounds and oh yes the smells of a very diverse city. The STREET SHOP pictured here was a common sight and their wares were proudly displayed on the street. It was common to see bakers, tailors and little produce shops in little cubby holes along the streets. Quite amazing. Great buys in Leather, Lace and hand-crafted pottery.

Zara: Cute clothes at affordable prices

by islaazul

Zara is a Spanish retailer of women & men's clothing, and there are branches everywhere. They carry the latest fashions, at affordable prices--slightly more expensive than H&M, but still less expensive than The Gap. The quality is higher than The Gap too. There are a couple of stores right here in the US as well. I bought a really cute white blazer for US$38. I saw a similar one at The Gap for $68, and the fabric is inferior.

Fun & Basics: The cutest bags

by islaazul

Fun & Basics has really cute bags & wallets--they remind me a little of Mandarina Duck. The prices are not that bad too. They do a great job combining leather with textile for a casual but unique & elegant look. Bags range from US$50-$300.

Carnicerias: Shopping for Meat

by Beach_dog

Carnicerias normally sell the the whole of range of meats. Baby suckling pig and lamb are typical dishes in Central Spain (Castilla), often roasted on a wood oven.Game is plentiful (as the photograph at my local supermarket shows) outside the summer months, and rabbit is available year round. The Charcuterias can be found occassionally, but were much more popular in the past. They sold pork products, cold meats and cheeses. A great favourite of mine is Jamon Serrano, the dry cured mountain ham. Spicy sausages (chorizo) are popular, and are sliced and eaten raw.Carniceria - ButchersCharcuteria - Selling pork, ham and sausage.
