The palace by SirRichard Aranjuez is a little town near Madrid (like 45 minutes by car) famous by its magnificient Royal Palace and gardens. It has one of the few palaces that can be visited around Madrid, and makes an excellent daytrip from Madrid. If you are short of time, you can do Toledo in the morning and Aranjuez in the evening, as the train to Toledo from Madrid stops in Aranjuez (half way), so U can have lunch at Toledo, stop in Aranjuez for an afternoon visit (less crowded than in the morning), have quiet walk around the gardens in the evening and take the train back to be in Madrid at night. The walls by SirRichard Avila is a small town in the heart of Castilla - Leon region, northwest of Madrid. Its main tourist attractions are the magnificient medieval walls, probably the best preserved in all Spain. Apart from that the town has a nice old part with narrow stone streets and many traditional castilian restaurants. Many places in town remind the presence of the saint Saint Therese of Jesus, a mystic saint who lived here in the 16th century. The many pastries and sweets made by nouns that you will find in town make a good souvenir from this place. Leave a Comment

The town and the beach by SirRichard If you are looking for a white small town with a looong wild white sand beach and a lively night summer ambiance, this is your place! Recently developing to tourism, Conil is still one of those semi-hidden treasuries in the south west (Costa de la Luz) coast of Spain. So far, only some germans used to come here in summer, due mostly to the "mouth-to-ear" advertising. Now the area is getting more and more famous, so the Golden Days may be soon over! Leave a Comment

Madrid balconies by SirRichard If you visit Madrid, the capital, taake a look up to the balconies when you walk around the centre. The typical Madrid facades are made of red bricks and have many balconies with iron work on it. Some houses of the centre are now being restored to emphasize that image of Madrid... Leave a Comment

by SirRichard San Sebastian is a nice coastal town located in the Basque Country, in the north of Spain. Is a very nice and "french style" town, rather different from Bilbao, the other main city in the Basque country. It has a wonderful maritime promenade, a modern Congress Palace (Kursaal), an old quarter full of bars with pintxos (the northern "tapas") and a beautiful bay that you can see from the "Monte Igueldo". You can get here by train from Madrid, or Paris, and by road (highway) from Madrid. It has an airport too. Leave a Comment

The rock, a watercolor by SirRichard Spain? England? I'm not going into politics here, but the fact is that this British colony is geographically in the spanish peninsula, so it may be a good daytrip from Cadiz or Malaga, the nearest big towns. Gibraltar is located in a big peninsula right in the strait, where Africa meets Europe. It can be easily seen in 1 day, and is a curious experience as you will have a weird mix here of british, andalusian, indian and jewish cultures, a special architecture, some interesting views at the top, a tax free area for shopping and the feeling of being in UK but with an andalusian accent! Don't forget your passport here, even though is EU passport is required for everyone! Leave a Comment

Palace and gardens by SirRichard This little town is located 10 kms away from Segovia and makes a good daytrip from Madrid too. In fact, you can visit Segovia in the morning, take a bus to La Granja in the afternoon, and return to Madrid at night. There is a wonderful Palace and Gardens here, all made in Versailles style (though smaller) and you can also enjoy the delicious Castillian gastronomy specially the lamb (cordero). Leave a Comment

The Town Hall by SirRichard Valladolid is located in the Castilla-Leon region of Spain, north west of Madrid. Is a rather small town that can be visited by foot and has a few interesting buildings and a beautiful "Plaza Mayor". It makes a good daytrip from Madrid (about 75 minutes by car, highway) or a pleasant stop if you make a tour around castilian cities around Madrid (along with Segovia, Avila, Leon, Burgos...) The castle by SirRichard Vejer is a small white moorish style village in the south west coast of Spain (Cadiz province). Is located on top of a hill near the coast (10 km), by the "Caños de Meca" beach. Is a nice daytrip if you are visiting the Costa de la Luz, and has got a few nice churches, a castle and many narrow white streets with flowers at the lattice worked windows. Leave a Comment
